It does, but it already supports the amiibo cards. I doubt it will support both.
Also the old 3ds also supports amiibos with the adapter that's coming out soon. So it wouldn't be a New 3DS exclusive and I doubt they'll put 2 Animal Crossings on the same system.

As pointed out already amiibo functionality was already confirmed for Happy Home Designer, so this doesn't confirm a Wii U version. If the characters had new designs then it'd be much more likely, but they're all the same from New Leaf.

If there really is an Animal Crossing U, would that title and Home Designer have some kind of crossfunctionality? Like, you make houses on Home Designer and import them to the U version in glorious HD?
