Forums - Gaming - This gen has been great for RPG lovers

I'm mainly a fan of JRPGs, and it seems there haven't been too many this generation. Xenoblade Chronicles X does look good though.

Assuming we mean home consoles it has been okay, but I agree seems set to take off over next 18 months.

Wii U - Xenoblade looks good, but outside of that has the system had any RPGs?
X1 - Solid for western style, not so much for eastern. I found Inquisition to be one of the most disappointing games of this generation. Witcher 3 could be good and Mass Effect to look forward to.
PS4 - Lot of overlap with X1 on western, but is getting some eastern this year. Omega Quintet, Person 5, HPDN V-II, Tales of, etc. I think safe to say it will surpass the PS3 by 2017 in RPGs.

It also has Mass Effect 3, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Monster Hunter Frontier G (Japan only), Dragon Quest X (Japan only), and Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei.

Let's hope in the Square-Enix reveal we get some Dragon Quest X love!

Yeah, the 3DS has had so many amazing RPGs its hard to believe.

Ah, Monster Hunter, forgot that.  Mass Effect is good, be odd for me to play third one alone. I am looking forward to SMT x FE.  I did not count MMOs but fair point.

I am not knocking the system, RPGs tend to be mid to late generation releases.

I'll drink to that brother! Love that diet Coke! It's like the PS2 era all over again. Well, not as great, but we have some great titles on the way.

True, I'm hoping for another Op Rainfall situation as well.

Still, no traditional FF game.

Not really, I'm an RPG lover and I have only two RPG's I like thus far. Pillars of Eternity and The Witcher 3. If anything; this gen is looking rather bleak for RPG fans and bleak in general so far.
Things will get better but there really isn't much to celebrate at this point, in my opinion.
