Following yesterday’s teaser trailer, we now have the first piece of licensing news surrounding PES 2016 as Konami have announced a 3 year extension to it’s licensing agreement with UEFA – first signed in 2009.
As a result, the PES series will exclusively feature iconography and presentation elements associated with UEFA’s major club competitions. This includes both the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, which will be allowed to feature as both individual modes and within a larger season overview. The UEFA Super Cup will also feature within Master League mode.
Speaking about the extension in the official press release, Konami’s European Brand Director, Sean Ratcliffe said “The UEFA Champions League is the biggest prize in club football and we are delighted to have extended our exclusive agreement with UEFA to feature it in the PES series” before going on to comment that these are “exciting times for the PES series”.
He also mentioned the work with UEFA in creating the PES Virtual UEFA Champions League – a global competitive PES website, the World Final of which was this year played alongside the UEFA Champions League Final in Berlin. The two grand finalists of which took part in a special exhibition game in front of thousands at the Olympiastadion.
It goes without saying that this is great news for the brand with the UEFA competitions bringing a massive amount of realism into the game. In terms of PES 2016 itself, the host stadiums of the UEFA Champions League and Europa League were both included in PES 2015. Therefore, could it be expected that this year’s Final hosts – the San Siro in Milan and St Jakob Arena in Basel – will both be appearing in this year’s offering?
