Forums - General - Nearly 900 animals seized from Arizona home

I think it should be the law to have to have your pet spayed or neutered unless you're a licensed breeder.

800 small dogs seized from Ariz. home

By ARTHUR H. ROTSTEIN, Associated Press Writer Wed Mar 12, 9:46 PM ET

"
TUCSON, Ariz. - About 800 small dogs, including Chihuahuas, terriers and Pomeranians, were seized from a triple-wide mobile home whose occupants were overwhelmed trying to care for the animals, authorities said Wednesday.

Pima County sheriff's deputies and animal welfare officials who removed the dogs also found 82 caged parrots in the home in a rural area northwest of Tucson.

Some dogs were pregnant and giving birth as they were taken to shelters in Tucson, said Jenny Rose, a spokeswoman for the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. Ninety-six dogs were taken from the house Monday and another 700 on Wednesday, she said.

"The home was definitely in very bad condition, urine and feces all over the home, in the kitchen and bedroom, with a very strong odor," she said. "Obviously, 800 dogs in a triple-wide mobile home, they were packed in there. That being said, they were in pretty good shape."

The elderly owners, who have not been identified, were apparently overwhelmed but have cooperated with authorities, sheriff's Sgt. James Ogden said. No charges have been filed, but authorities continue to investigate.

The animals appeared to have had enough food, but a few were missing paws — some from having been attacked by other animals, others apparently having caught their feet in fencing outside, Rose said."

At first glance, I thought this would be one of those horrid puppy mills. Looks like it might just be one of those households who don't know how to control their animals reproduction.

I think this is a case of some people having a big heart and not recognizing when they were doing more harm then good. Makes me sad but not angry like other folks who do this and make no effort to care for the animals...like they are just collecting them as trophies like "yup I own this...and this...and this..".

Personally...I like most animals more than I like most people. And given the choice between saving one or the other...well you better hope I know you.

LOL, NW Tucson. It'd be funnier if it was NE Tucson, though.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

I wouldn't say I think it should be law that animals should be spayed or neutered.... but I think some people aren't grounded in reality well enough to be properly taking care of animals. I do believe thats part of the background check animal shelters do before letting people take home an animal.

And why do I not agree with the making spaying and neutering a law? Lets say you have this one cat that you love dearly, but you want to get some kittens from it to carry on his/her legacy? Can't do that if they are fixed, they don't just tie tubes in animals, they rip those organs right the fuck out.

I clicked the link to this thread half expecting the home owner's name to be Noah.

hahahaaha I just read that in the local news. The regional price of chihuahuas just dropped big time!!! According to the local news this as a dog mill btw.

@ChichiriMuyo, you from Tucson too!!! Nice.

Jeez can't even imagine 800+ pets in a mobile home ....I had 4rabbits in a year had 10+ was nuts had to let them go . But rabbits are easier to take care of basically give them water and they practically eat the lawn so didn't have to do much . dogs are a diff story .

thts pretty bad
shoving tht many dogs in tht little space
