Forums - Sony - New York Times advocates buying ps3...

it should be noted (and people have been reasonable about it so far), this is not a article about the console wars or anti wii or anti 360.

just the times saying that the ps3 is a great deal for the price. which has been the case for over a year.... (for anyone willing to shell out that sort of cash).

Well, this is a big reason for the huge yo/yo increase from 2007 in the US. Americans really don't care as much about the brand name as the press. If the press says a product is good, they will go and buy it. The PS3 really has enjoyed alot of good press as of late, and is now reaping the benefits.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

I don't think it'll matter much to the gaming crowd what NYT has to say.

^^
the article is not for the gaming crowd. it's for tech enthusiasts looking for a good deal. if they happen to be gamers, then there's more for them to love.

Good press for people outside the gaming crowd also helps console sales. The Wii has benefitted tremendously of the coverage it has had in the mainstream media around the world. Heck, even my grandmother knows about Wii nowadays and she has no clue of the other consoles. The people outside the gaming crowd are often the people buying or funding consoles, so it does matter wether or not the general public is even aware of a console and it's benefits. And of course reaching for people who don't play is also the way to expand the market for gaming overall.

This is what has been said in Au as well. Best Blu Ray player atm is ps3 - due to it being updated.

  Unleash The Beast!

Sony's lovin' this. I can imagine the smug look on their faces right about now.

Enjoying it i'm sure.  Loving it would be difficult given they no doubt paid for it.  Perhaps not directly, but I'm sure you'd find a lot of advertising dollars sunk into the paper's owner.

nonsense,,,  What he is claiming are facts,,just go to any best buy and ask them you are intrsted in blu ray player ,,,,,,,,,the first thing they say is : have heard about PS3? ,,and the stroy starts from there,,,,,do you think sony has also paid them?  no

It is just the value of the console,,,it is an entertainment centre that updates itself via firmwares

It's nice to see the press taking a 180 degrees turn with regard to PS3 coverage. This will likely continue and around christmas the bulk of US press will probably be praising the PS3.

Blu-Ray movie support is indeed a killer bonus feature (especially with the high quality the PS3 provides, even at an afforable price and far more multi-functional than rival products), the Blu-Ray movie market is expected to triple this year and the DVD market is expected to shrink a little more than it did in 2007.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

This isn't an article about the PS3 vs. the 360, it's an article about the PS3 vs. the rest of the Blu-ray players. It's hard to argue it's not the best Blu-ray player. They're saying something more like "Oh yeah, it can also play games", there's no comparison of the gaming to any other console.

Ahem... 180 degree.  360 would put you back in the direction you started.
