Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's unused IP's.(Wii)

I hope so also, I know Nintendo will announce some games at this years E3. A new Donkey adventure will be great, Donkey Kong 4 please.

Pikmin and AC should get released this year.

@Stof:

I hope you're right, Stof. Nintendo has more potential than any other developer in gaming right now. I'm interested in some of the cool ideas these guys have.

@Twesterm:

Explain your question more. I already believed that Zelda and Pokemon have reached their peaks before Galaxy came out.

Before Mario Galaxy everyone assumed it just wasn't going to get better than Mario 64. Mario in2D peaked long ago and 3D Mario peaked with Mario64.  And then Super Mario Galaxy proved them all wrong and proved that Nintendo can still bring old series to new heights.

What if Super Mario Kart turns out to be better than any of the previous ones?

See, I don't consider Mario Galaxy to be better than Mario 64. I still had faith in Mario until Galaxy came out. But now, I feel that Mario has peaked as well. Mario's quality has dropped off dramaticly, in my opinion. However, I still love Mario, and I understand that every series will peak at some time. So, with that said, I don't think there's much left to do with Mario. I think that's one of the reasons Nintendo doesn't release Mario game as much--they want to keep the series fresh, but it's hard since the series has peaked.

We could sit and argue preferences over if Galaxy or 64 is better but it comes down to whatever our preferences are.  Luckily sites like Metacritic and Gamerankings exist to solve little problems like this.  True, reviews are in the end still opinions but it's a good stick to measure by.

Super Mario 64: 94%

Super Mario Galaxy: 97%

Super Mario Galaxy is the better game, though not by much.  It took what Super Mario 64 and Sunshine started and built upon things learned from both games.   If Nintendo had peaked with 64, Galaxy would have been just a rehash and would have suffered because of it.

Nintendo has proved time and time again that it can take old ideas and make them interesting again.

 Nintendo already stated that Zelda:TP would be the last Zelda game of its kind to be released. (I believe it was stated during the Nintendo E3 2005 conference)  That doesn't mean that there will be no more Zelda games after TP, just not the way we all know the franchise.  Maybe the Zelda franchise will get a makeover which will take it to Mario Galaxy heights.  Remember, TP was a PORT from the Gamecube version therefore the Wii has not OFFICIALLY received a Wii version of Zelda yet.   Don't worry...before the Wii or should I say before this generation ends, ZeldaWii will be released.

 As for the Pocket Monster franchise, the ONLY things I can see done to make the franchise fresh is that Nintendo take what they are doing to the portable space and base a Wii game similiar to that.  It doesn't have to be an MMO.....YET or does it not have to let us actually control the 490+ pokemon in battle.  Wait....maybe it does, except for the MMO part?  Incorporate that with online play where you can trade, battle, communicate and such and maybe, JUST MAYBE Nintendo might have something on there hands and another game to deliver to the Wii owner and pokemon fans alike on the same scale as SMG, MKWii and that Smash game.  PBR was a decent attempt to bring online play to the Wii and all but it could of/can and WILL do better in the future.

 All I'm saying that there is still room left for improvements in the PoKe'MoN universe and Zelda for the Wii will come in about 5-6 years from now...probably, lol!!!  To make all this short basically what I'm saying is that I believe that those two franchises are nowhere near thier peak.

Generation 8 Predictions so far.....(as of 9/2013)

Console that will sell most: Nintendo Wii U

Who will sell more consoles between Microsoft/SONY: SONY

I still see a light at the end of the tunnel for Disaster day of crisis...

Whether Galaxy is better than 64 or not is debatable (personally I think it is). But even if you think it isn't, if that's what you'd consider an example of a series that peaked, then peaking really doesn't seem to be so bad. It definately wouldn't be a reason not to revitalize any of Nintendo's IP's.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

SMG did have its share of flaws though. For instance, SMG is WAY too easy in terms of difficulty compared to SM64.

Instead of going the way of Sunshine, Double Dash and Wind Waker, Nintendo tried this gen to stick to what it was most succesful.

Mario Kart Wii is getting bikes, but Nintendo's strategy is to get nostalgic elements into their games, and so far it has been succesful. Not to say the games are rehashed, no, they are completely new experiences, but they resemble more of the old Nintendo than the GC Nintendo.
