Forums - Gaming - What Are Your Favourite Indie Titles? (No Need For Any Other Discussion)

Another simple thread from me. If I've missed any that you think I might like then PLEASE tell me. If you could explain why I might like them then that would be even better! If you don't agree with someone's reason for liking an Indie game then I see no problem in explaining why you disagree. You know what I mean when I say 'No need for any other discussion'.

Titles I played and loved:

Unfinished Swan
Journey
Two Brothers
FEZ
Outlast
Flower
Don't Starve

Titles I'm looking forward to:

No Man's Sky
Rime
Wild
Tomorrows Children
The Witness
Everyone's Gone To The Rapture
Soma

I just put like 80 hours into This War of Mine. Pretty amazing for a side-scrolling game where the focus is on scavenging and resource management rather than combat. The funny thing is, I remember almost rage-uninstalling early on because the game is unforgiving at first.

Oh, and I still go back to AudioSurf when I get new music, even though I first bought it like four years ago.

I'm looking forward to Rime and Wild. I hope they're as good as they look.

I've never heard of those titles. I'll check them out on Youtube.

Edit: Actually I had seen those titles before but forgot what they were called. This War Of Mine looks interesting.

i've enjoyed tons of indies. i'm also going to use the more liberal usage of "indie" and include the small scale projects that are sometimes made by bigger developers.

flower/journey
unfinished swan
limbo
braid
outland
the first trine but not the second trine.
stealth inc.
unmechanical
retro city rampage
dust
the swapper
ibb and obb
guacamelee
mechinarium
knytt underground
pixal junk (really any of them)
de blob
critter crunch

purchased but never got around to quite yet:
axiom verge
transistor
titan souls

looking forward to:
the witness
broforce
relativity
talos principle
pneuma

just a blanket statement on why i like these titles. you'll probably notice there are a lot of puzzle games in that list and then a lot of platformer games. these are my two favorite genres and AAA just don't cater to these genres much anymore. i've got nothing againt the FPS genre and only some hatred for sandbox games but that's where nearly all AAA games get made these days. as such i find myself skipping most AAA titles and just playing indies these days.

The funny thing about my experience with This War of Mine was that I was nearly done with the game but then they had a major update where you could kind of design and control your next play-through by selecting things like the places that appear on the map, the difficulty, and which characters you start with, not to mention the addition of a few new places to visit and new characters you could define from new skills.  That added like 40 more hours for me.

I also had my first character hang himself from depression, which was tough.  That was a play-through where you only have on character, so it was instant game over.

It's a unique game.  I'm not sure why it doesn't get more press.  I like the visual style a lot, too.

You hung yourself? That sounds heavy (and delightful). I loved Limbo but don't you think it let itself down in the last two parts?

Probably flower. I like indies, but I don't play a lot of them for some reason.

You might want to give Journey a shot too. Flower is great but Journey is something really special.
