Forums - Sales Discussion - Wii U Japan sales 2013 vs 2014 vs 2015

We have to wait until the 19th this month to get a new game on Wii U (Mario Tennis: Utra Smash), which might just be too long to keep up with 2013.

At least then the games come out: Animal crossing: Amiibo Festival on 21st, Taiko Drum on 26th and Yokai Watch Dance on december 5, plus the Splatoon Bundle of course. If these can keep sales high enough until the release of Ginei Ibun Roku #FE, then it might have a shot

I also hope we get that Direct soon, as nothing is announced yet for next year with a clear release date, making Q1 2016 very barren

It gets an art academy on the 12th, but that wont do much.

What game released in week 44? That jump is huge

I believe that's the week of the Wii Party U bundle came out - which was an extraordinary good deal for Japanese buyers.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

I think 2015 will end up just a bit below of 2015, even with Splatoon bundle coming soon and some new games. But it will definitely stay up a lot from last year!

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Mario Tennis doesn't have a release date in Japan.

According to Wikipedia, it does. A few days ago it also said TBD, so I thought they just got news about when it does release in Japan

Updated. Next week 2015 begins to fight back against 2013, and the week after that is Amiibo festival. Hoping for a 20k-30k week next week.

what?! Wii U sold under 5.000 units at this time last years?

20-30k might be asking too much, the Splatoon bundles did do well, but not superb on Amazon Japan and only entered the top 20 this week. I'm expecting more something like 15-20k, but anything above would be better of course

Look at where Wii U is now, and look at where it jumped up in 2014 with Mario Kart bundles. Its pretty obvious that splatoon is more popular than MK in japan so the boost will be atleast 18k. Last year it sold 4k then 14-k. going from almost 10k to just 15k would make those bundles a failure.
