Like many gamers, they usually don't know how game making works. It isn't easy whatsoever. If we could just understand that first and foremost. In addition to that, this is new ground that Nintendo is treading. They are new to this genre. And I'm not handing out Nintendo "FreePasses" like petty gamers think we are, it's just that this is something new for them and it's a great effort. Secondly, Nintendo isn't STEAM. We can't compare the two because the development houses follow different philosophies and development styles. What works for STEAM necessarily won't automatically work for Nintendo. Thirdly,I don't think Splatoon is the best thing ever. I just applaud Nintendo for making a new franchies in over what, 13 years? And it's a good quality title. I'm praising it for that reason. It isn't easy to be new and engaging. Especially when we are so stuck on not changing in the past few years in gaming. If you feel that way about Wii U, get a PS4 or Xbox One to hold you over. Nobody is forcing you to only have a Wii U. There are plenty of titles on those consoles that are generally good. It takes time to make a game like this, some features can't be added in time for Nintendo to hit their mark. Delaying games usually isn't good practice, especially for a new IP. I feel that Nintendo handled this the best that they could. It's new, they need to test the waters, see how things go so that if there is a sequel, they'll know exactly what to do. Should Splatoon have released with a bit more content...maybe. Could it have had better online options...sure. But, we have to give credit where it is due. It's fresh, it's new, give it time. |
alright, so a few things that should be cleared up
-Yes this is Nintendo's first time in HD, yes it is really hard to make such games, but that does not change the fact that we can complain about whatever game we so choose. It is a right as a consumer to provide feedback on how a company operates. Also, being new to something is also not a good excuse for underperformance. If Nintendo truly needed help, they should have enlisted more third party support, and suddenly there would be less pressure on splatoon to make up for that loss. They are doing a great job sure, but as a wii u owner, I am dissapointed since they promised the wii u would be bigger than it currently is.
-I wasn't directly comparing steam to Nintendo, I was just providing a comparison. I can provide other examples involving blizzard, ea, ..., even Nintendo themselves (remember when operation rainfall complained about not receiving certain games)
-Nintendo just made codename steam as a new franchise. They also created Xenoblade chronicles quite recently that gave the jrpg genre a fresh breath of air. Why is it that suddenly splatoon gets praised over those games that clearly seem to be more content filled. Splatoon wasn't even that highly rated. Splatoon is also not that creative in the shooting genre, especially when compared to Blizzard's upcoming overwatch.
-I actually am currently gaming on the ps3 backlog, because of the insane wii u droughts (If I am not interested in splatoon, having waited half a year since smash bros, I now have to wait more months before starfox or mario maker, that is pretty much stupid). Also, regardless of the other consoles I have, I have still spent $300 on a wii u and have a right to be critical of Nintendo's work, because so far it has been pitiful. Yes, it is hard work, but if the work is too hard for nintendo to handle, they never should have let themselves be abandoned by third parties
