No it isn't.

Playstation is the most popular console brand in the world, but Nintendo is probably the most popular gaming brand. And Sony is far from being the most popular brand in the world. That position would easily go to Apple. I don't think Sony is even in the top 50 top brands in the world.

EDIT: According to Forbes, Apple is first with a massive brand value of $145bn, MS is in second place but far behind with a value of $69bn, and Sony is in 79th place with a brand value of 6.9bn which 10 times smaller than MS. Interesting to note that Sony spends more on marketing than MS

Im not talking about brands as a company, I am talking about their gaming branch. A good day for Sony has always been a bad day for their competition since they got in the gaming industry. It took Nintendo god knows how many years to sell 100 million consoles with the Wii (something that cannot be duplicated because of the risk and scarcity of continued demand). Sony did what it took Nintnendo forever to do in their first gen and they exceeded that to a number many dont think will be surpassed anytime soon.

Let this sink in. Sony was in third place (or possibly even tied at this point with MIcrosoft). They've sold over 80 million consoles while being in third place. 80  million+. Lets see Microsoft go into second and do that this gen. Just saying.

Well if you only talk about gaming then I mostly agree with you. Sony is much stronger than Nintendo and MS for consoles. The main downside for Sony is that the console industry is dying but then Nintendo and MS will also face this problem.

Nintendo as a whole is larger than Sony's gaming division. Not based on sales but based on revenues. Nintendo has also been much more profitable.

Microsoft's game marketing last gen was great idk what the hell happened this gen.

Their marketing is fine...

Their XBO marketing is horrible and there are many examples for that  mentioned often enough in this dedicated Xbox thread (or in Jay's before). From almost no marketing at all in many markets even for their own games (Germany as example) to pretty bad or non-existent  worldwide marketing for games like Dragon Age.

I think they spent all their budget for the year on the Tomb Raider timed exclusivity. And if it is for 1 year like it's rumored, I think MS would have paid at least $50m for that.

Yeah, the Tomb Raider deal likely did cost them alot of their marketing budget for the year, and they still have to run ads for it at release. I think they're probably saving up for Fallout 4 marketing as well, it's going to be a huge game that has the potential to move alot of consoles, especially if they bundle it this Holiday season.

I feel like Fallout won't have the sales effect that COD or AC had for Xbox.

Yeah, Fallout is huge but I believe it's not such a console seller since it's also not considered as console game like Asscreed and CoD.

They should have gotten the Battlefront deal, they missed big with this considering that this would be a wonderful bundle with a special console in Star Wars look and that with a new Star Wars movie which will probably have some billion in revenue and may break all cinema records.

I think even the XBox 360 R2-D2 console sold pretty good and that was without movie and with a pretty bad Kinect game^^ Sony will sell huge amounts of Battlefront bundles this winter.

Fallout will sell way more than Battlefront.
And if MS is serious, they could offer a Fallout game for half price with a Tomb Raider bundle.
Like The Witcher 3 has demonstrated, open world RPGs are more in demand this gen.

I think some of you guys are underestimating Fallout 4 sales potential. Fallout 3 sold 5m on 360, and all signs suggest that Fallout 4 could possibly sell Skyrim numbers (8m on 360). And don't forget that the Xbox One version is set to receive mods before the PS4 version. There's definite potential for a system seller there, if they bundle it and market it well.

Yeah I definatly think they will bundle Fallout 4 but I wonder if there is any chance of a Limited Edition console design, That may even tempt me to break out my wallet if it looks amazing.

Yeah, I was thinking of the same thing. MS really missed a huge opportunity there.

Maybe, but a console in Star Wars look will sell better than most other possible special edition consoles.
