Forums - Gaming - Bloodborne: Most Downloaded Game In Japan Last Month

With the advent of the PS4, Japanese gamers have been opening to digital download quite a lot more than with the previous generation, and this week the Japanese magazine Weekly Famitsu published the top 10 rankings for digital download games in the month of April.

This is particularly interesting, considering that Media Create does not include digital download sales.

  1. Bloodborne – PS4 – 45,353 – 19.3%
  2. Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition – PS Vita – 11,898 – 15.4%
  3. Super Robot Wars Z3: Tengoku Hen – PS Vita – 10,897 – 8.5%
  4. Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair – PS4 – 10,144 – 23.7%
  5. Sword Art Online: Lost Song – PS Vita – 10,131 – 5.9%
  6. Senran Kagura: Estival Versus – PS Vita – 7,292 – 10.5%
  7. Battlefield: Hardline – PS4 – 7,090 – 18.8%
  8. Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin – 6,453 – 23%
  9. Senran Kagura: Estival Versus – PS4 – 4,692 – 12.8%
  10. Resident Evil: Revelations 2 – PS3 – 4,386 – 11.2%

The chart also includes the percentage of digital download copies compared to the total, that is considerably higher for PS4 titles (excluding Senran Kagura).

Bloodborne‘s digital sales were nearly 20% of the total, with the game selling 234,512 copies combining digital and retail during the month of April, and placing itself as the top overall seller followed by Sword Art Online: Lost Song for Vita and  Super Robot Wars Z3: Tengoku Hen for PS3.

Interestingly, Japanese Nintendo gamers seem to still largely prefer physical purchases, with no game for 3DS and Wii U making the top ten. The game that sold the most on digital channels for Nintendo consoles was Theatrhythm Dragon Quest, with only 3,528 copies sold digitally in April among 89,699 total sales, a meager 3.9%.

Wow, 45k digital sales only from last month? That's huge. The game will probably surpass 400k LT in Japan.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Very nice!!

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

How do famitsu get digital sales? Sony are usually stingy in revealing game sales without a percent sign thrown in somewhere

Wow, just imagine if the digital ratio is that high everywhere in the world.

Once again the japanese are the best thing we sales junkies could hope for, if only the west would be this open with their sales.

That has likely already happened, Considering it sold over 150k at the opening, add in this 234k figure for April and you're already pretty much there. and we're at the end of May now, I'd say it's probably pushing past 500k by now.

Maybe they do provide some numbers. With movies they provide nearly all the information flop or not, so why not for games?

Really? =o Has it really sold 234k in April? Cause this is extremely rare in Japan, usually games drop a lot and I don't remember seeing Bloodborne in the top 20 since a long time ago.

No, no, no the article is just incredibly poorly written. It's 45k digital overall (though on that I'm not sure) and 234k retail+digital overall.
