Metroid? Is that the game with the Master Chief wanna-be guy?

Even I knew about Metroid when I wasn't a big Nintendo fan. And I knew of Samus Aran. She's iconic.

Most know, but most don't actually play.

Still look how many of those 17 million where in the US.

Metroid and Kirby are basically dead outsides the USA.

That's not true at all. Kirby is a very successful franchise in Japan. It's only in EU where it's dead.

And Metroid is fairly big in EU, just not in Japan.

And out of that 17 million (as of 2012), it has 2 of the best rated games of all time.

Pretty sure you can't have 2 of the highest rated games of all time and remain unknown to gamers.

Metroid: Other M

North America: 0.84m 64.5%
+ Europe: 0.24m 18.2%
+ Japan: 0.13m 10.1%
+ Rest of the World: 0.09m 7.2%
= Global 1.31m

Thats with a install base of more than 101million Wii users (if im reading the chart right).

And it sells 1,31m units, and like 70% of its sales in the US.

Metroid is basically "unknown" to gamers, outsides the US.

I heard he cant crawl is that true ?

Sorry son, but you can't have a bad game and expect it to sell boatloads.

Thats not saying much.

Kirby is pretty much only popular in the US  (atleast thats how I see it).

I think Metroid is bigger in the US than anywhere else in the world as well.

Meanwhile ask anyone in the world if they know a guy named Mario that has a mustashe and likes to jump on goombas and rescue princesses,

and everyone will reply yes.

You guys know that "big in japan" type joke?

Kirby and metroid are kinda like that.... they just couldnt make it internationally (they are big in the US).

--------------------

edit:  (i went out looking to see if my "assumption" was correct, first vgchartz kirby game result I found)

Kirby's Epic Yarn

North America: 1.41m 68.8%
+ Europe: 0.09m 4.4%
+ Japan: 0.45m 22.0%
+ Rest of the World: 0.10m 4.8%

And that was one of the most selling Kirby games? I think for the Wii when it was big.

In europe no one knows who kirby is... atleast not your avg joe.

Why are you only showing Kirby's Epic Yarn?

Kirby's Dream Land 2, Kirby Squeak Squad, Kirby 64, Kirby's Adventure, Kirby's Return to Dreamland, Kirby Super Star, Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble, Kirby's Pinball Land and most recently, Kirby Triple Deluxe, all sold the most in Japan. And when the games don't sell the most in Japan, they typically come very close to NA's sales.

Kirby is equally popular in Japan as it is in NA.

It's one of Nintendo's smaller games, but I was a little surprised to discover that many people have never even heard of Metroid before.

I would like to see what people on this forum think. Have you never heard of Metroid before? Have you heard of it, but don't quite know what it is? Have you heard of it, but have never played it? Or have you played it?

y, those people are called noobs.
