With the price cuts in Europe and the possibility of overcoming PS3 in the February NPD? We know PS3 doesn't sell well in Japan so that wont make too much difference.

Maybe for a short time after the Europe price cut. If it can last till the GTAIV launch, the lead could be sustained for a while (assuming a US price cut).

General consensus is Sony can't afford/doesn't want to cut price again soon, so a lot will depend on how brand loyal people are over GTAIV.

I might add that even a short term overtaking by the 360 could delay the PS3's claiming of generation second spot by an extra six months or so. Sony would have to catch up, get ahead again, and then sell enough to overcome the ground 360 took back, before they could even start hauling it in again.

In any case, it's looking like the PS3 won't catch the 360 until after the next Wii/Xbox and probably PS4 are out, making it mostly irrelevant. The PS3 won't get the tail end support the PS2 got because it simply won't have the equivalent game library.

Sony must cut the PS3 price soon not wait out until before Xmas 2008. Cheaper price represents value people like cheaper consoles. Sorry for all those people who got ripped off by Sony paying $600 US on its launch. Over in Australia it was $1000 AU for the 60GB PS3 model with no games on launch day March 23rd 2007.

 Now the price in Australia is $700 AU for the 40GB PS3 model with no games.

The price cuts of the XBox 360 is a great thing people prefer the cheaper console which is value for money, they do not like being ripped off by some faceless corporation.

I am gonna have to go ahead and disagree with all of you.

Microsoft has screwed up and given the WW lead to Sony, something that I believe they will never gain back on a sustainable basis.

And you talk about value for money, and are claiming the 360 is better?

as a pure gaming machine (presumably working without RROD, after buying an overpriced HD, Wireless adapter, without blu-ray/08 Sony exclusives)

I could understand how as of right now, with live, lesser price than a wii (for the arcade) and a larger game library- the 360 could sell a few more in Europe now, as compared to before.

But I believe a lot of people in the others territory recognize the fact that the PS3 is on an entire separate tier from that of the 360, and Sales of the PS3 will continue to surpass it. IMO.

And I am sorry but What the hell is with all of the love for cats around here.

Current data and sales momentum seems to indicate the PS3 will overtake the Xbox360 Worldwide sometime in 2009, at the latest around Holydays 2009.

I highly doubt the Xbox720 or PS4 will be out by then (Sony is not used to screwing their userbase by replacing a console every 3-4 years...).

BTW i am a lonely appartment person who owns a cat, lol. IMO console gaming is a huge rip off after 5 years its time to get a new console. PC gaming well is more value for money and games are so cheap. In 5 years it will be new PS V new Xbox V new Nintendo console.
All three companies will win weeks world wide in 2008 but Wii will win more often than both PS3 and XBox 360.

Only way PC games are cheaper is if you download pirated copies.
