Thing is we don't see what numbers the other European countries do in Europe. I don't know how we look this up, Here on VGC we have a total for Europe ,UK ,France and Germany. seeing actual numbers would help.
But it is possible for it to be a tight run race if we assume many gamers choose Nintendo systems as a second system. I did for years . I bought a Saturn ,but i also got a N64 later on, I bought into XBOX after Dreamcast but when Cube launched i bought that to play certain games.
It was only at Wii where i bought Nintendo first, i wanted a XBOX but was so reluctant with the RROD thing exploding everywhere i waited till the following year ,got a great deal and still got the Ring of Death on my new console.
With Wii U i bought First at Launch, it impressed me. at the moment nothing on the other two make the systems worthwhile purchases for me. Not till more exclusive titles appear.
But many of these early adopters may be looking this coming Christmas and the next to pick up a second console. In 7th gen many picked up both XBOX 360 and PS3 , they had some very different games on them. This gen gamers will have either a PS4 / XONE. Yes i know some have both ,but it won't be as widespread due to them both having the same titles mostly , other then a few exclusive titles which appeal to certain Sony or Microsoft fans.
Many will see Wii U and all it's exclusive content ,and it's increasing as a viable second console purchase, come Christmas 2015 many Wii U's will be finding homes next to either a PS4 or XONE on someones shelf.
Remember there's lots of gamers out there which have the urge to play all great games what ever system they may be on. The Wii U has some real gems and those gamers won't miss out for the sake of a couple of hundred pounds or so. ..
Plus Amiibo will be huge this coming Christmas.
So i like the Thread poster here, believe it could be a tight race in Europe in the Long Run.
Never under estimate Nintendo ..
Shigeru Miyamoto said a while back that when people who have bought the other systems spend there time with them they will get bored as they will offer nothing new, He said he reckons that People will look to Wii U to fill that void in their gaming. Plus the power of local mulitplayer is their ace . No other console does Local multiplayer like a Nintendo one. Not since the Dreamcast days has one existed outside of Nintendo..
