I don't think so. Games like Metroid Prime and The Orange Box aren't games that will be remebered as all-time greats 5-10 years after their releases. I don't think people look at The Orange Box or Metriod Prime and say, "This is one of the greatest games I have played". Maybe at first you'll say because of hype and exitement. However, do think that right here and now Metriod Prime is a game that should be put into the same category as a game like Super Mario 64? I doubt most people think of Metroid Prime that way. Games like Resident Evil 4, Grand Theft Auto III, Halo, and KOTOR are the type of games I think are deserving of a 95% score. Just being an amazing triple A game isn't good enough to get that type score. Surely you don't think a game like Bioshock put into that category, do you? |
Yes, when I look at The Orange Box(especially HL2) and Metroid Prime I get that 'this is one of the best games ever' feeling, and yes, I would DEFINATELY put MP in the same category as SM64.
And I find your opinion a little bit strange, you call a game like Metroid Prime not genre-defining, yet you think a game like RE4, Halo or KOTOR ís genre defining? Those games don't bring much innovation, they're quite genius games, and I enjoyed them very much, but they definately aren't as revolutionairy as, say, Metroid Prime.
The only reason I can come up with for calling MP not genre-defining, is saying it created a new genre, and thus dind't define that genre.
