I'm estimating 80 million sold for NX platform (home and portable). Could be more, but it could be less, I'm taking the 3DS + Wii U final number which should be in the ball park of about 90 million and assuming there will be some continued erosion on the handheld side because of smart devices.

I'm not sure there's enough dedicated home platform cycles left even ... there will be one more for sure (Playstation 5, NX, etc.), but will be there be one after that? I don't know honestly, by then it may be possible for a Netflix style streaming service that doesn't require hardware or things like being able to stream game hardware from your Phone/Tablet to your TV.

Around the Network

Depends on how console gaming in itself develops. With Video game streaming one might not even need a console anymore for gaming, thus stopping their sales right in their tracks. But that scenario is still a big "if" and then a "when" sometime in the future. In any way, in order to achieve that number they should hurry, as time might be running out.

Man, that's still a whopping 300m consoles away. Or, almost half what they sold now, over more than 30 years and 6 (7 or even all 8 depending on what you count) generations. I'd say it'll take at least another three, maybe even four more generations and at least 15, likely 20 years. So what is that, 11th, 12th Gen? 2030-2035? If ever? If gaming even exists in the form as we know it until then. I'd say this is a very hard goal to achieve (but would be cause for major gloating of course ).
