Welcome to VGchartz's live Super Mario 3D World run!

Wait did you say live Super Mario 3D World run? How does this work?

Good question anonymous VGchartz user! We will make this work thanks to Miiverse posts!

Thanks to miiverse, we can fact check if all live members are playing the required amount of levels in the game. You see, after you finish a level in 3D world, it lets you pause to post a miiverse comment like the one above. The great thing is that it will give the title of the level after you made the miiverse post

The cool thing about this is that the miiverse post will also give a time stamp. This means we can even see who finishes the game or specified levels first!

For the first live 3D Mario World run, I'm planning on us playing the first two worlds. This way we the play session is shorter allowing more people to join. If people want to participate but missed the first run, they can still join for a run on the other worlds.

I'm also thinking about a skype voice chat room so we can hear all members live reactions as we play this  game together. Other voice chat apps may be considered as well.

(NOTE: Important rule change on miiverse posting as of April 7th!)

Live Super Mario 3D World Run Rules!: (last updated at 9-10 AM PST at April 7th)

You need a Wii U GamePad to participate

Take a look at these miiverse post to learn how to play this Live Run in five simple steps!

Step #1: Enabling Miivere Post

You need to be able to complete World 2-1 to enable Miiverse posting at the end of the level! Since we're using Miiverse to fact check and see our time, this is essential!

Step #2: No Power ups at the Beginning!

You must start the first level of our Live Run event with no power ups or a power up reserved! A simple way to start like this is to use up all your reserved item and die at a level. You will start off with no abilities but not a mini character as well. Treat this as if its your first time starting the world! However lives over 5 is okay!

Step #3 The First Miiverse Post

All particiapnts must post a miiverse screenshot of the beginnning of level 1-1 once the clock hits the time of the live run. So if we planned for the event at 7:30 PM ET, do not post a miiverse screenshot before the time of the event. Posting it after 7:30 PM ET is okay. Better late than never in this case!

The screenshot should be done after the intro scene of level 1-1. It should also show your character with no power ups or items reserved. Here's how the picture should look.

This prevents people from starting too early and gaining an upper hand.

Step #4: Miiverse posting at the end of level

After you complete a level you can make a Miiverse post. Make sure to touch/click the Green post button right away! This is how you will make a miiverse post that will tag the level's name to it. You need a Wii U GamePad to create this post.

Warning: If you click A too fast, this option will disappear. You will have to restart the level until you click the green post button and make a Miiverse post.

Tip: After finishing a level, frequently tap at the right side of the screen to avoid tapping the A button and restarting the level. Tapping will not exit the screen above.

For example notice the level's name and the time stamp given to the post below.

UPDATE (April 7th): However, to make a specific time stamp appear, you must place a stamp or tag an impression/question/etc to the post. If you don't,  the post will say an "x hour ago" or "x day(s) ago." after a certain amount of time has passed.

Stamp Ex:

 https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAAADVHiFpV14tA

Impression/Question/Etc tag example: https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAAADVHiIodhyrw

(Posting screenshot also works, but remember they are subjected to Miiverse' two minute spam filter. That's why we're using the green post button at the end of the level!)

Step #5: Link your Miiverse Profile Page

Please copy and paste the link to your miiverse user page and post it in on this thread after you finished the run. This will let users see all the levels you completed.

For example if you click on my link (https://miiverse.nintendo.net/users/Skha07/) --> User page --> Activities:

These posts will appear!

Remember to tag an impression/question/etc for the miiverse post or place a stamp so a specific time will be recorded after a day has passed.

(optional)

It's best to not post anything in Miiverse right after or in between so we can easily browse the list of levels you've tagged and completed.

Step #6 Know what levels to play!

Look at the post below this one (http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=7192394) to see what levels you will have to play.

That's it! Just 6 simple rules involving the game and Miiverse!

If any rules need to be clarfied in further detail or you have any other suggestion, please feel free to let me know!

Practice Run planned at: TBD  (Post edited at 6-7 PM PST at April 4th)

Next Official Live 3D World run is scheduled at: TBD

Worlds and levels for the next run:

World 1

Following the yellow line, from left to right

1. Super Bell Hill

2. Koopa Troopa Cave

3. Chargin' Chuck's Blockade

4. Mount Beanpole

Start of branched pathway

5. Plessie Plunging Fall or Switch Scramble Circus

End of brached pathway

6. Bowser's Highway Showdown

Notice: You do not need to complete all the levels in this live run. Completing one of the branched level is all that is required.

http://www.mariowiki.com/World_1_%28Super_Mario_3D_World%29 has details on all the levels of the first world as well.

World 2:

Following the yellow path (from left to right)

1. Conkdor Canyon

Start of branched pathway

2. Puffprod Peaks or Shadow-Play Alley

End of branched pathway

3. Ready Rolling hill

4. Big Galoomba Blockade

5. Double Cherry Pass

6. Bowser's Bullet Bill Brigade

http://www.mariowiki.com/World_2_(Super_Mario_3D_World) has all the details on the second world as well.

We will not play any Captain Toad or Mystery House levels (pink houses off the yellow pathway). However, miniboss level levels that appear in your pathway must be completed. Basically, any level on the yellow line is what you must play unless there's an option to choose one of them because the path branches out.

The short cut to World 2 from level 1-2 is forbidden. The game does not let you post a miiverse comment that tags the level's name. Also, since you are required to post a screen shot at 1-1, posting another screen shot of the animation to go to world 2 will suffer from Miiverse's 2 minute filter. Because of these circumstances, the shortcut to get to World 2 is forbidden in this live run. Doing so will require you to restart the level until you make a miiverse post that tags the name's level (Koopa Troopoa Cave). Sorry for the inconvenience.

Yeah, great idea! Maybe we can do try this idea out for other games too

I don't have the game right now so I can't join, but hopefully it will gain enough support :)

Yeah I'm thinking NSMB Wii U and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze can be next!

This can be like a seasonal thing

Rules have been updated! Please let me know if any of them should be clarified! The other posts will be updated later today as well!

Would it be easier to go by level clear time, adding up all the times from each level? Also I'm in!

Posting clear time could help but that post wouldn't tag the name's level so that would require two Miiverse post per level. We can do this if people don't mind the frequent break to post in miiverse. Also I'm going to test it right now if posting clear time and tagged level posts do not violate the 2 minute post time limit.

And thanks for joining! Is it okay if I include your NNID in one of the posts above?

I just tested it and posting clear time does violate the two minute. People will have to wait a minute or so before posting their clear time. But since everyone will have to wait for two minutes we can still make this a rule too. However, we can make a miiverse post that tags the level's name right after the clear time without waiting two minute.

Edit

On second thought, let's only make miiverse post that tags the level's name. It's much simpler and miiverse tracks what time our posts are recorded anyway.
