Forums - Microsoft - IS the Europe price cut bigger than first thought? Starts today?

This might start a price war with Sony and Nintendo. It's about time the Wii had a price cut And Sony doesn't want to be left out so what does everyone think. Will Nintendo counter this cut from MS?

There's absolutely no reason for Nintendo to cut it's price in any market.

But this cut could really help the 360 in Europe.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

If it evens up sales with the PS3, Sony won't follow anytime soon.  If it starts BEATING the PS3 regularly Sony will have no choice.  They would be being outsold in two markets by the 360, and only winning in the one where both console's sales are low enough to be irrelevant.

Nintendo would be stupid to cut the price of the Wii until after supply outstrips demand.

I know it's not worth cutting the price of theWii unless it's selling out but what about countries like Italy and Spain where the PS3 has taken control. Is it worth cutting the prices solely in these countries just to build up momentum to the release of MKWii and Brawl.

Cut the price in part of Europe and everyone will think your about to cut the price in the rest of Europe as well.  Everyone would stop buying Wii's because they think a price cut is imminent.  That'd be about the only thing that'd stop people purchasing Wii's lol.

Yeah your probably right but they don't want to leave it too long or the 360 and PS3 will start looking good at a comparable price.

It seems that Amazon UK already has the price cuts in effect. Ignoring promotions, according to Amazon, RRP prices are:

200 £ for the Arcade (~260 €, could even be 250 € in Eurozone depending on exchange rate decisions, meaning the same as Wii's price)

250 £ for the Premium (~330 €)

280 £ for the Elite (~365 €)

For comparison, PS3's list price is 300 £ (for the only available model, the 40 GB one). This means that every 360 model is cheaper than the PS3. Wii's is 180 £.

Nintendo could co-ordinate a full price drop within about three weeks.  Even if the PS3 and Xbox 360 were $100, there is no point in Nintendo dropping the price if they are still selling every console they can make.  So the question is, how low do the prices of the PS3 and 360 have to go to cancel out the originality value of the Wii?
