I thought Kojima said he was done with MGS after 3. Then he came back for 4, and again for Phantom Pain.

He did. This is one of his reasons for leaving. They want him to be an mgs machine and he doesn't want any part of it. Konami wants to make mgs a yearly franchise. Look at the number of releases the mg series has churned out. Kojima has only worked on the main titles and Peacewalker, and you can tell by the sales.

But, he didn't say he was done for 3, he said 4 would be his last, then he made peacewalker, which he said would be his last, then 5, and he said it again, but this time he meant it. They censored him for Peacewalker, and now presumably they're doing it again in 5.

Why is Konami doing this...

They're not. Like I predicted, this is Kojima's decision, and likely because they are censoring him and trying to tell him how to make games. That's why he himself asked for his name to be taken off.

well, so they ARE doing it...  why are they censorshipping him?

Konami censored a particularly violent scene from the Japanese version of peacewalker which lead to this comment:

"There's tolerance for fantasy games, but for games where you show war or real violence between people, you apparently can't complain about anything. With this, it seems impossible to communicate something through games."

Kojima sees himself as an artist, he wants what he wants and you can't blame him. There are tons of movies with rape scenes and violent gory deaths. They weren't done for spectacle, they were done to move the audience. Sure there are some times when it's used for shock value, but there are others in which it is done artistically. Kojima is in the latter category.

The game will be shit without him. Hype is dead.

Not even a bit interested anymore.

As long as it is as good as the mainline Silent Hill games I won't complain, but certainly it is disappointing to hear that they will go on without Kojima's philosophy.

I couldn't care less about the game without Kojima.

Hype dead indeed.

I still feel like it'll be a pretty good game but it sucks that we may lose Kojima's original vision of it in the process without his involvement.

there have been a lottttttttttttt of mediocre horror titles in the last years so obviously you have to wonder if this will end up blowing without Kojima. the demo/teaser was pretty cool, and even though that may or may not have much of anything to do with the actual game (gameplay or style wise) it still was a good sign

Honestly, without Kojima, Konami's days are numbered. I'm not even an MGS fan, and I see that. No Iga, and now no Kojima. Seriously, who cares about these guys anymore? Let MGS finally go out with a bang, and then Konami can whither away so that publishers who will actually respect those brands can buy their IP.

Just leave MGS alone. Even I have reverence for it.

They're so numbered that we're forgetting their name
