Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo going mobile was NOT their most important announcement.

I feel like Nintendo is going to aim for a Steam like system between all their consoles and mobiles and QOL services, and sadly it will be subscription based model.

OR it could just be a simplified version like an app store.

A subscription based system (at least a paid one) would only hurt Nintendo in the long run. Nintendo doesn't want to alienate their audience as it is, and if the mobile crowd has to pay more than necessary, they will just ignore Nintendo Mobile for the dozens of free games there are.

Not really sure it would alienate them when done well. I think it's already been discussed on Vgchartz what a Nintendo subscription service a la PS Plus would look like. Say you get one NES,one SNES game and one GB game every month for 3DS and WiiU, and better discounts for €50 every year, on top of whatever mobile things they would add, would that alienate you?

And before you'd sat this would devalue the worth of their virtual console games... They are all pretty old, and their core audience probably already owns several copies of most of them across several systems

For WiiU I'm not complaining. Not really. But for 3DS? Yokai Watch was confirmed for 2015, but what else? Besides I'm still hoping for a June release for Xenoblade. With Starfox in November and Zelda in December, I wouldn't mind another heavy hitter in September

I think that the 3DS is on it's last legs to be honest. The new FE may come out this holiday, and Pokemon is definitely coming out this holiday. Maybe a Metroid game. Not much else to bring to 3DS but ports.

This would only work BESIDES a free account system for new mobile users and wiiu/3ds owners, of course

It's very unlikely to be a subscription based model. A subscription to a brand new, unproven platform is the worse way to introduce a mobile game you plan on being on 100 million phones. If Steam can have Summer sales and remain profitable, Nintendo can have a free membership service without sacrificing rewards. They've been doing it for years already. The infrustructure was just flawed.

I DO hope you're right spemanig. It can be huge.
Oh, and congratulations for the OP.

Having a subscription based rewards program along side a free one doesn't really make sense.

As long as they don't put elements that were free under a paywall (ejem multiplayer ejem), It would work. Hell, I may be interested in one.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I think it has at least 1,5 more years ahead of it. I'm mostly hoping they bring some JP only games to the West: Great Ace Attorney, DQ VII,FF Explorers, Style Savy 3... Apart from that... A few years ago Monolith was working on a 3DS Baten Kaitos, before it got canned... I would love for them to still make that happen . And Metroid... Sure... But didn't a 3DS Metroid game they were working on get cancelled as well?

It would when the discounts you could get are incremental. A bit like a Playstation sale with or without Plus discounts. You lure them in for free, show them how much they are NOT saving by not paying a monthly/yearly fee, and BAM... They're hooked! 😄

When I said "on it's last legs," I meant 1-1.5 years lol. I think we'll definitely see the successor next year.  I'm sure we'll get a few good swan songs, but I think most of their teams are working now on the unified platform games. That's why the 3DS this year is lacking so much new first party content. Mostly everything is a port.
