It is very nice to help people, absolutely, I always wish I could've done more plateletpheresis, but it's a much, much, much longer process than giving blood (hours), and it's hard to be able to set aside that kind of time esp. w/ work.

I absolutely LOVE this story. It's really cool when this escapist hobby we all love can effect some real-world positive change.

All this does is subsidize the costs of helping people. Whether those costs be a moderate fear of needles or a lack of time. I would love to give blood, especially since I have the "universal donor" (O-) blood type , but I've tried giving plasma before and didn't even make it to the machine because I almost fainted from a pinprick combined with a blood pressure test. Giving blood would probably be easier of course, but such an experience shows I have a lot of work to do if I wanted to.  If there were bigger incentives maybe I'd put more time and effort into getting over my discomfort. People like to help others, but there are various personal costs (both opportunity and explicit costs) involved to do these things, and sometimes they exceed the perceived benefit that the other person gains. If one gets a personal reward out of it, they are going to put more effort in the help they give. I probably wouldn't give blood, even for Bloodborne, because I have extreme discomfort from even blood discharges for my own personal health, and those take like a minute at most. I can see there being people who just are "weirded" out by the idea who would go through with it because there is a carrot in front of their head, though.

I mean have you seen BB. Their reserves must be more than empty by now.

It would be a nice touch if the nurse rang a bell for the next doner.

This is nothing compared to China where you get free ipads... although you have to donate organs, not blood.
