Forums - Sony - So I watched my first Blu-ray movie tonight...

How good is your TV? If you're watching a movie on a crappy TV it won't matter.

Please list your setup, I'd hate to have you ragging on Blu-ray if you only have a SD tv with no surround sound.

some movies really have better quality on blu ray,

depends on which ones

i think the ps3's blu ray is weaker than a regular blu ray player (i think im not sure)
The PS3 has superior specifications compared to stand-alones. I think the only thing stand alones beat it on is sound quality, but we're talking hardly noticieable.

i wasnt sure, i remember reading something that said that, so i guess im wrong lol

Yeah, it's ok. As for sound, it's only lacking the bitstream true dolby or something, a 7.1 format, I think. I wonder if people can actually tell the difference because the PS3 supports most 7.1 sound formats and below.

A 32" LCD with DVI output to HDMI and a projector at 1080i. I have a 5.1 surround sound stereo - Technics - with a Bose sub. I run everything at 1080i, though the LCD owns the projector with sports games. And actually, 300 looked great to me. I watched Face Off and was amazed how bad the transfer was.

I meant the original poster, and 1080i is no better than 720p.

I actually went down to 720p and see a difference - my TV allows me to see what is being played and what format. Genji and most PS3 games run on 720p on my TV. Regardless, I didn't know who you were talking to.

1080i is better when there's not much motion. It is a higher resolution.

You need to change that picture of yours, it freaks me out.

Yeah...I myself have to say 720p is better than 1080i, at least in my experience. Quick question, is Pirates one of the lower-end Blu-ray movies also? Because it seems kind of grainy as well.
