Forums - Gaming - Microsoft Desperately Wants Xbox One To Win, 'Winning Matters More To Them Than Short Term Profit'

This is my opinion here. But I think if Microsoft can't cut into the PS4 THIS holiday season with Halo 5, then they won't be able to at all. The bad thing for them is that it wouldn't actually take much for Sony to stunt some of the potential Halo momentum. Simply dropping the PS4 to the same price as the XB1 will do that.

Oh great Patcher, you jinxed the chances of the Xbox One getting first in any region!

Bet with Xander XT:

I can beat more games on his 3DS than he can on my PSVita in a month. Loser has to buy the winner a game on his/her handheld Guess who won? http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=193531

Me!

This is why gamers shouldn't want these massive multimedia companies making consoles, the One is a loss leader just so they can steal the market, and kill off the competition. That's all they know what to do.

Ironically, both Sony and MS have learned too many fingers in too many pies can fuck up lots of pies though.

"And again, I think that to get somebody to switch parties politically is tough, to get somebody to switch consoles I think is is tough, so it has to be explained as the Wii audience, as they grow up, is more interested in the PS4 for some reason. Maybe because Sony has been around longer and done a really great job. I mean, Sony has done nothing wrong this cycle at all.”

This argument is so fucking stupid and ignorant. Nintendo beat Sega twice in a row, Sony beat Nintendo twice in a row, MS won last generation for developer support, eventhough, by rights, Nintendo won. There never was a trend, and he is dense as shit for suggesting the Wii Audience (remember this is the same audience which didn't buy any games at all last gen) has transitioned to PS4. What's happened is that kids who had Wii's likely haven't been able to afford a PS4 OR Xbone yet. They're still too expensive.

Honestly, the guy sounds completely uninterested in discussing the state of this game generation. Ive seen him quoted on Netflix film acquisitions lately. Maybe theres more "rep" money in these markets..... (ofcourse there is).

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I think there are a fair amount of people loyal to Sony, they just aren't $600 loyal.  If they were $100 more and had arrived at the same time I think they'd have been fine last gen.

Doesn't that prove my point though?  People are "loyal" to precieved quality and value, not brand.

No.  Read the last sentence again.  Why would they buy a more expensive console or one that came later if not for loyalty?  Why would PS3 have sold anything this gen especially before 2008?  It tracked ahead of 360 even before the software landed because people were brand loyal.  There was no other reason for people to buy it other than Bluray (cheaper players available).  Of course if you offer nothing and are more expensive you're losing SOME but that doesn't prove your point.  I said a fair amount, not all, customers were like that.  I think Sony has plenty of people that will buy their system because they believe in the brand to deliver even without any evidence to that effect.  I think Nintendo, Apple, and MS all have these fans.

I am Iron Man

Well everything they did until now screams that they want to win. At least 2 NPDs every year.

If it weren't for the horrible X1 reveal, I wonder where they would be today in sales.

Is it really that suprising the ps4 is winning?

-it is the stronger console

-the smaller one

-it has more innovative features like shareplay, recording for 15 minutes or playing while installing. The entire OS is better and more innovative for a lot of people. The ps4 has also an arm cpu built in to support these features thats why the xbox one cant record more than 5 minutes unlike the ps4.

-more diverse exclsuives, many different genres and devoloped in various countries not just the US.

-more open minded for indie games and free to play games, hence free to play games dont even require playstation plus to play online. This resulting into even more exclusives.

-Japanese first choice resulting also in more console exclusives for playstation.

Thats my take on this, i could count even more things but my point is you cant say its because of one thing but various reasons why some one buys a ps4. Everyone sees something different in buying a ps4 over the xbox one. You cant just put one reason like DRM debacle or speculating about former wii owners buying ps4s now like pachter does.

Microsoft even trying to win definitely seems to be out of touch with reality. They only had a chance last gen because Sony made a huge mistake in launching the PS3 a year late and more expensive. If MS really is in for the win prepare for a 199,- XBox One before Xmas. MS as a brand doesn't have a chance outside the U.S. and UK, especially since Europeans don't seem to forget so easily about the pre-reveal, and with the PS4 gaining in Japan and soon China there is no chance in hell they will ever gonna lead again (outside holidays), except Pachter was only talking about the U.S./UK .
