The same NPD thread that everyone uses as a source. The source for that is the NPD insider on neogaf.

The #1 game sold 515k copies (digital plus retail), so the #9 game sold a lot less. It's overtracked, just accept it. Top Ten Physical Retail Releases: February 2015

Monster hunter sold 290k retail plus digital. If the order sold more in the US then that means it might not be over tracked and if it is on here the number would still represent retail plus digital.
| Gamer_of_the_Year said: No, I'm saying Die Hard Fans of anything are more likely to buy digital that any other gamer because they know they'll probably always keep it and it's faster access to the title. I do this with all Street Fighter iterations. Secondly, die hard SONY fans bought the Order? Yeah, that makes sense considering that every great Sony exclusive sold like hotcakes the last 7 years (that's sarcasm btw, MS devotees clown PS users for exclusives not selling well as nauseum). Why couldn't it be die hard fans of highly stylized cinematic games with interesting stories and gameplay (ie ME!) or die hard graphics whores bought the Order? Food for thought |
I don't think that's necessarily the truth. The majority of the gaming population, even hard core fans, buy physical copies. Digital is becoming more popular, but it certainly hasn't surpassed the popularity of physical disks (at least, outside of PC).
Also, MH4U had huge stock issues at launch so it actually did have high digital sales.
| Kerotan said: We know the order sold more than monster hunter in npd. MH sold 290k digital plus retail. You'd imagine the digital sales are not that high, maybe 30k. So that would mean the order sold over 260k retail. So vgchartz number for the US is likely very close to the retail plus digital sales. Meaning their 560k WW week one number is likely very close to the actual number WW when you include digital. Estimating 400k first week WW is way off. |
Weren't you in the NPD thread? All you have to do is read the first page

You're just assuming digital sales of MH4U lmao.
Bolded: vgchartz does not track digital sales. Vgchartz has The Order at 320k in the US for the month February.

The Order sold around 200k for February's NPD. |
If the game below it sold 290k how is that possible?

That's including digital sales. MH4U had stock issues at launch, so digital sales weren't low.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate - 290k (including digital sales)
The Order: 1886 > 200k
It says over 200k retail only.
The game below it is confirmed as selling 290k retail plus digital. Is it not very possible that the other sold very similar if not more when you include digital?

The digital sales of MH4U were at least 90k.

Yeah and digital sales are relevant to the guy who made this thread. It's not like he's gonna exclude the sales just because they are digital. Ps4 has a much higher digital attach rate than the 3ds so it's possible that the 3ds caught up if they'd stock issues. The ratings from buyers on the US store certainly suggests a pretty decent digital launch.
