I gotta laugh at this thread. Seriously? It wasn't a campaign lol. Not like people lobbied in the streets and on the news to fuck the game over.
90% of those sales would come from people who don't read reviews.

But thinking about it. The Order takes away the controller from the player a lot, with or without a good reason. I can see a lot of people hating that. The devil is in the details, I suppose. |
Well, to be honest I think Uncharted, although a good game, is waaaay overrated. So in that regard I kinda agree with you.
Main complaints about The Order is way too short and as 0 replay value, while Uncharted can be a bit longer (not that much to be honest) and for most has some replay value (I personally I only felt compelled to play them the one time) and also multiplayer. Also people say The Order gameplay is repetitive and clunky and Uncharted's isn't (again here, I don't think it's that great either, not bad, just not great).
So, in conclusion, from what I've heard about The Order and what I've played of Uncharted, they may play similar, but what one does right the o(rd)ther does wrong..

Criticism over the game occurred due to trope mistakes made by the designers. Things like repeating enemies, patterns, accessibility, etc. If you're playing the game to enjoy it, you will enjoy it, but if you're looking to criticise it, you will find stuff because there are a lot of "holy grail" mistakes. For example, whenever you fight the werewolves, there is a repeating pattern of charging, hiding and attacking...sometimes by multiple directions, sometimes by one. This is seen as being a typically "poorly programmed encounter" because it's basically a loop of animation. While you're playing it, it's not nearly as terrible as when you're watching it. It's over fairly shortly and the risk level is high enough to keep you engaged, but watching it...watching it makes it feel cheap. Watching any game makes it feel cheap, and that's the problem. Critics feel they can simply watch a game and decide whether it's good or not. |
Great analyze, makes a lot of sense. The game has numerous things that can be criticized if you are looking for them (I usually do). The "professional" critics did play the game themselves and hated a lot of the design choices. It is not like everyone would still enjoy a flawed design. But I do believe that good things in the game have been overlooked.

Another great post. While I found the gameplay to be very fun and polished, the replay value could definitely be a problem for some. Personally, I don't measure value by the length or the amount of content as long as they are reasonably acceptable. It is about how good the experience is in general.
Completely agree about Uncharted. Good games, but not great. ( The Last of Us is amazing though )
Well, it seems that The Order didn't do great digitally. It came in at #4 for February, behind Dying Light and Evolve (ok, they had a head start), but also behind DragonBall, which should not have happened in my opinion.

With poorish digital sales, I'm starting to think that VGC overtracked the physical sales.

Unless there are factors that the vgc statisticians can't figure out...
Like install size, resellability, Collectors editions, length of time on chart, demographic. etc.

These numbers are well deserved and im proud of Playstation Nation for making up their own minds and not listening to propaganda reviews that clearly fear The Order is a threat to one of MS's only two heavy hitting exclusives (Gears of War). This game is its own beast. A graphical and technical masterpiece, brilliant setting/atmosphere, and a damn good cover shooter with some pretty ingenious weapons. Firing around cover has never been done this good before. The angle of the gun and the reticle is fantastic. Shortcomings aside I think the game is a damn fine first effort that has set the graphical bar almost impossibly high for this gen and that's a good thing. With sales like this in 2 days (it was released on Friday, numbers go in on Saturday) a sequel is all but confirmed. Just like Naughty Dog did with Uncharted 2 I fully expect Ready at Dawn to expand the gameplay systems and refine combat (hopefully have both VAMPIRES and werewolves) and even add a multiplayer (fingers crossed for a non campaign co op where we get to play as anyone from the Order). Sony has a new AAA monster on its hands. I can not wait for more from this IP. |
I liked the game, it sure wasn't a legendary status game, but i still enjoyed it. My only complaint was that during action scenes, where you shoot and fight, it felt kinda claustrophobic, and they should have made the boss fights better and more unique. Other then that, the game would actually be excellent. I don't care what people say. Gaming is clearly not about entertainment anymore, it seems broken. Both devs and Gamers are fucking us in the ass.

Also, more than half of the game was either QTE's or cutscenes so that's not my thing either. Seriously, the game's bad. This has nothing to to with "tastes." It's not a good game. Until anyone can come up with a well thought out counter argument to any of the repeated to death arguments above on why The Order isn't good regardless of length or tastes, the universal virdict will hold true. Just because it works (barely, at 30fps) doesn't mean it's automatically good. Other M was a polished game, too. |
Universal verdict? lol it has way more positive critic reviews than negative. It has has more positive reviews than mixed. It has more mixed reviews than negative. And the majority of gamers who actually played it love it or at least like it. In what alternate universe is the game universally considered bad?!

Game, set and match. No disputing that.

There is nothing more to say....Everyone who doubts that or tries to state lies like this spemanig guy is clearly ignoring the truth. If you quote numbers at least don't lie...on Amazon or Metacritic the clear majority liked the game...by far!
