Forums - Gaming - This is why VR is a game changer.

Also, can't wait to buy a 150$ Morpheus, two 30$ PS moves, a 60$ PS4 camera, the 400$ system, and a 70$ game (Canada).

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

It will definitely change the games that we play and the way we play them.

This recent poll shows 3rd person is by far the popular way to play games

I doubt 3rd person will work very well in VR.

I've heard from a couple different sources that 3rd person works very well in VR actually.

Seems hard to imagine, as you usually rotate the camera around the character. In VR your head movement controls the looking around part which would be very odd if that made 'you' swing around the character. I guess you can at least move your head side to side trying to look around the character in front of you.

Yeah, from the articles I've also read, third-person actually works well... really counter-intuitive! I haven't had the chance to try a third-person game in VR, but I really want to.

Anyway, a couple of links:

Op, as someone that owns a dk1, dk2 has access to a morpheus sdk and tried the older version, i agree.

The only thing in its path are people set on saying it won't work without ever trying it, thankfully there will be demo kiosks for morpheus in every major store.

Pretty much, at least this iteration of VR we're seeing. It's a building block though..

It won't work. It takes you out of the real world and that's not something that people want.

5'55" makes me think that almost all the early VR games will be on rails. On rails games get panned 10 times worse than linear games, and normally for good reason.

What do people want?

I could argue that television, facebook, etc "take you out of the real world" and yet they're all insanely popular.

They don't literally cut you out from the world.

I just really don't think VR is ever going to be a "game changer", honestly. The idea of having VR glasses or whatever on my face and "pretending like I'm in the game world" like that, just never really appealed much to me, even as a kid. People were talking about that being the future direction of gaming back in the 90s, for christ's sake. People acted 5 years ago like 3D was going to be THE big thing too, yet it's already kinda faded out. Same with motion controls. It's neat to have new ideas and new takes on gaming............but at the end of the day, most gamers just want to sit, relax, and play video games.

No extra bells and whistles, no BS, just gaming. *shrug*

Its not going to be a game changer. Its not revolutionary in any way. A screen in your face isnt VR... its just a screen in your face. It has great educational functions, but for gaming? I can think of mutiple issues with it from software to physical disconfort and price.
