I don't think anyone has said that have they?
The PS5 Exists.

They should implement it. Sony are known to be quite progressive, they were the first to make a major console region free, they had no intention of stopping second hand game sales/lending games to friends and constant online. They know the masses want external hard drive support, I hope the listen.
Could have really needed this last week.... Redownloading 500GB of games for the new HDD was not fun.

You've been able to transfer your whole PS4's HDD to another one from launch, this feature seems to allow you to be a bit more specific about what you want to transfer. Although I've got a feeling that was already added in a previous update.
What PS4 needs is for you to be able to use an external HDD like you use your internal one, like an A and B drive.
For PS4 owners to be able to save games to the external HDD and access those saves straight from that drive, simply through USB 3.0.

Hopefully they add this. Or at least make it so when you uninstall a game you don't get rid of the updates too. I mean the PS3 didn't do that...why move backwards...

Not that simple, patching is no longer plug in modules, but now actual code change.
The ps3/360 patching architecture is archaic, but allowed dlc to exist separately.
Firmware 2.50 may also bring DualShock 4 button remapping:

That would be an awesome feature.

So its impossible to do with the new architecture?

Errrr... unless I'm mistaken; but I thought whenever. anyone brought up external HDD support on the PS4 the explicitly meant that they want it to do what you can do with the XB1 or WiiU and basically run your games off an external HDD.
If this thread is about being abke to "back up" the PS4 then well...... yay?
