Forums - Sony Discussion - Will Bloodborne be smeared like the Order: 1886? (Opinion piece)

Multiplat turns out trash it's business as usual
Exclusive turns out trash it's a smear campaign

Welcome to the internet

Bloodborne looks fantastic, and the simple act of trying to compare it to The Order in any way is shamefully degrading, as aside from exclusivity to the same platform they have nothing in common.

Around the Network

I very much doubt any self respecting journalist that takes their job seriously and has any kind of respect for gaming will smear Bloodborne, more than likely the pure hardcore gameplay will be well valued, along with the wide variety of weapons, monsters to face, solid AI, punishing, but rewarding play will be valued by all but the most casual gamers and hopefully many reviewers that didn't really get The Order will put their objective goggles on for that game.

Reviewing is about objectivity, being opinionated is fine, but there also has to be real understanding of whether or not the developers actually achieved their goals.

One thing that people largely forget about The Order 1886 is that it is Ready At Dawn's first game they've really built from the ground up. Making that game seems to have been largely about focusing on getting the story telling right.
I haven't played it, so I can't say what my opinion is on the game, but as a person that appreciates a decent movie, it seems to me that many of the people piling on the hate were expecting something entirely different than RAD always stated they were making.

It's clear from the description that they laid out from when they first announced the game that it would be exactly what they delivered. They seem to be taking criticisms to heart, with rumors from reliable insider Shinobi602 saying that The Order seems to have been made for RAD to perfect how they tell a story. The game was made to build their engine, so they can set the stage for inevitable sequels, which will gradually improve on the rest of the formula to the point where they have it all.

Ru even said that the reason the game doesn't have co-op or multiplayer is because that would have taken essentially another team working alongside the team that made 1886 to develop that feature into the game and they didn't want to rush those things to make a tacked addition that would be worthless, doing so would have diminished the single player even further.
If RAD had turned out a weaker single player campaign, with a rushed multiplayer that would have probably reduced the number of people that actually liked the game down even further.

Although I will say that most people who have played The Order actually liked it and the general consensus seems to be that the game is OK, as far as a game goes, but it also has it's exceptional elements, like awesome graphics, atmosphere, great characters and it set the foundation for plenty of potential for the series going forward.

Anyway it seems to me, as an outside observer (meaning I haven't played it, but have watched some videos, read articles and reviews) that The Order has been largely, unfairly judged by it's detractors and many giving the game ridiculously low scores just aren't that into the kind of game that this particular title turned out to be, despite being told multiple times prior to release exactly what the game was going to be.

Bloodborne is a very different game, clearly more about gameplay, it's open world, features multiplayer/co-op, very little story (which may get some negative opinions), it's built by a much more seasoned studio, who has many games behind them and they largely gets praised.
The only thing I can see happening is that casual gamers won't like the hardcore, punishing gameplay, which much like The Order will be because it's not the kind of game they'd be interested in, in the first place.

Bloodborne seems to be getting a lot of positive praise from the few that have played it, these also seem to be people that have experience with From's line-up, so I doubt any justified Smearing will happen.

we need more souls... not less :)

There's enough Souls to go around, we need more Armored Core at this point considering that fanbase is being left out in the cold.

blasphemy!! there can never be enough souls!

besides... there's like... 3 souls games... now 4 if we count bloodborne as one.

there's what... 20 armored core games? i'd say it's souls time ;)

I don't think it will. BloodBourne stems from Mr. Miyazaki's previous works in the Souls series, which has been praised heavily for its difficulty and level design. BloodBourne will most likely improve upon these mechanics and add new gameplay elements and increase enemy A.I. as well. I believe pre-release reception will be positive.

Order was critizied for QTE and linear elements. Whether that is true or not is anyone's opinion, but Bloodbourne won't contain those elements. That being said, it is safe to say BloodBourne will be fine in both sales and critical reception.

this is a number's game... what are the average sales of the armored core games with worldwide release and what percentage are they of the average souls game?

talking about fantabes being dumped, you're talking to someone who counts as 2 of its favourite game series of all time the shining force series and shenmue :/

I seriously doubt it, considering this from From Software, the same company behind Dark Souls.

Was the Souls series always popular since day 1 as they were now in terms of numbers?, because afaik they were very niche back then and still aren't exactly up to COD's level if we want to go strictly by numbers.

Really all this says is Souls has more people playing so let's let Armored Core become super niche by not doing anything for it from now on and let it die off because why bother with it right?.

Well now I know I'm talking to someone who counts as 2 of its favourite game series of all time the shining force series and shenmue, but you seem awfully accepting and defeatist of them though.

I know this conversation is already going to head towards "thems the facts, just gotta deal" but I only said I wished that they would work on another Armored Core game, I love that series a lot and there's not many like it, Souls isn't really my cup of tea so I feel left out that From has decided to go into one franchise (that's actively splitting from multi to exclusive with visible results of hate) instead of going at both and making them stronger.
