Forums - Gaming - When do you think Miyamoto will retire?

He should keep developing till he dies just like Miyazaki will keep animating till he dies. Besides Japanese people live forever like that guy in Kill Bill

Dunno, 6-7 years max. I see him leaving after their next gens console. It's just amazing to me that if it weren't for him, Nintendo wouldn't be who they are today. Whatever happens, he will go out with a bang bang.

True but I think he would like to spend the rest of his doing something more relaxing and enjoyable than game development

Some people live for their work. Hence Miyamoto's wish to hand off the duties as Nintendo's general producer (which includes a lot of business duties) and being able to participate more in actual game development again.

Seriously, have you never heard of people who quit their work and then lived depressed because they didn't know what to do with all of their spare time? I think Miyamoto is this kind of person. It doesn't seem like he wants to quit, at least not the game development. That he doesn't like business is clear from a recent interview.

Well of course, it is his choice and if he wants to remain in game development because he enjoys it, then great but I always kinda assumed its a hassle considering all the interviews that developers do

He should have retired after the GameCube. He is part of the reason why Nintendo has not evolved and have been on a downward spiral quality wise since the GC.No one can say he has been relevant since the 80s.The best Mario and Zelda games were made by other developers as well as DK.

This, but I do not think he will retire until he dies

What? So... Mario Galaxy, Nsmb, all flukes that haven't made them money. If we can do so much better then lets start our own company. Nintendo makes sure the dude arrives safely every day. He is going to retire when he gets tired of development or if he stops making Nintendo billions like he has done.

He will never retire. They will take his brain and put it in a mech suit. He will then become Mechamoto and make Mario/Zelda games forever.

Haha, jokes aside, I think he will stick around for a couple more years, maybe up to 70. Japanese man, they can keep working for a long while...

lol "making Nintendo billions" Nintendo.

He won't retire. He'll step down from his current position, but he'll keep designing games for as long as he's capable. They'll be progressively smaller projects.

Yea, I don't see him working for too much longer mostly cause hes old! I say 5-7 more years at most

62 years isn't really that old when you consider how much the average life expectancy of humans has increased over the last century.

Hayao Miyazaki retired at the age of 73. I say Miyamoto will most likely be around for about the same time.

At least if his health keeps up.

So far so good.
