Forums - Nintendo - Wii U Software Compared to Other Nintendo Consoles

Hey guys, I was thinking about how the games on the Wii U compare to games on previous Nintendo consoles. Now, I don't mean quality necessarily. What I'm mainly thinking is just how the Wii U compares to other consoles in terms of number of games per franchise and number of franchises that appear on each console. I made a chart that should help:

Obviously this list is incomplete since there will be future Wii U games to release, but I thought it'd still be cool to look at. Notice that I included only major titles. Particularly for Mario, I could've gone all out with all the minor games, but I decided to stick with the big ones. If anyone notices a game I missed let me know. I didn't include all franchises (like Pikmin or Animal Crossing) just because some of them don't have very many games (I almost didn't include F-Zero for this reason) Also, I didn't include games like Mario Kart or Smash since they always just get one game per gen. Anywho, what do you guys think? To me, it seems like the Wii U is getting a good number of franchises represented, but not much in the way of multiple games per franchise. Also, the SNES was the only console to have at least one game for each franchise!

Nicee! It will be cool to see how it turns out in the end

Nice! I really like that Nintendo is bringing back franchises that have been missing on home consoles for the Wii U (Star Fox, Pikmin, Yoshi). We can only hope that we get some Metroid and F-Zero action as well. (I think Metroid is a given, F-Zero is far less likely)

Looking at the list I think that the Wii actually had some really nice games. The Mario Galaxy games for Wii were really good, much better than SM64 in my opinion. I put them at the top with SMW and SMB3 (remake).

I guess Wii and SNES were my overall favourites, judging by Nintendo's first party games.

Good list, will be interesting to see how many gems the Wii U will collect over the coming years. :)

That's great. Why don't you make a thread about it?

It`s actually interesting how Ninten paces their games throughout their generations. Of course people say several times how Ninten relies on their same IPs and make so many of them, and it is true, but it looks like they pace the number of games per console pretty well, so that people can still enjoy their games although there are so many titles under each franchise.

I think the few times they get a little over board is with the DKC games and the FE games on the SNES. Anyways, interesting look on Ninten`s games throughout their life. A 2nd post could be made for the other ones that couldn`t fit in here : )

why would i when there is one here? no point in spamming the forum with redundant threads. Believe it or not some 3rd parties had series across Nintendo Generations  that are no longer seen on Wii U (not counting quick cash in ports after the original release).
