From the ones I've owned the Wii U is the best hands down.
I liked my Dreamcast but I never raved about it like some do. It had some good games but many feel very dated now. I normally find revisiting old dreamcast games quite disappointing. I can't bring myself to revisit soulreaver because I doubt it'll begin to live up to my memories.
The Mastersystem had a few very good games as did the mega drive. Mainly platformers but there were some real gems.
I never owned a PS3 but my xbox360 gathered dust as it almost directly competed (and lost) against my pc.
Pretty sure genesis outsold snes....

no it didn't, only in Europe not WW. There were other consoles like TG-16 and neo-geo though.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned the GameCube. That was an amazing console and comparable in performance to the original Xbox. Res Evil 4 totally shined on this console. Also loved the Dreamcast a great deal. The first true online console with multiplayer functionality.

Yeah but I believe the X360 will pass the PS3. Only because the numbers on this site indicate it (the 360 has been selling a lot more than the PS3 lately). I feel the popularity of the PS4 has something to do with this however (people who would consider buying a PS3 will probably go with the more recent technology).

Gen 1: NES>SMS (Missing some consoles like the Atari 7800)
Gen 2: SNES>Genesis (CD-I?, Turbogrfx?...)
Gen 3: PS1>N64>Saturn (fair enough, but where's the Apple Pippin, the Atari Jaguar and so on?)
Gen 4: PS2>XB>GC>DC (ok, but where is the Atari Flashback 1 and 2?)
Gen 5: Wii>360>PS3 (C-c-c-c-c-c-CONTROVERSY~!! The PS3 will most likey pass the 360 if it still hasn't. Also where is the Mattel Hyperscan?)
Gen 6: PS4>XBOne>Wii U (Ouya? Intellivision Flashback?)
