Isn't Bloodborne a Dark Souls successor? Those where hack and slash role playing games. I wouldn't define Dungeon Crawling as a genre, just a mere aspect of a videogame, otherwise we would have to define a Zelda game as an action adventure dungeon crawler game. Seems like a complicated way to define a game.

from my perspective calling Souls games "hack and slash" is the same as calling Mario games RPGs, because "you are playing a role"

Well the wikipedia defines a hack and slash game as one where the hand to hand combat is the key aspect of the game. So I find it fitting to call it a hack and slash role playing game.

Also you can call it an Action RPG. You can also call it a dark fantasy dungeon crawling hack and slash role playing game. Or you can call them whatever you like, really!

I don't know what to tell you, man. Interwebbed.

Wikipedia Hack-And-Slash

Just because a game has real time combat, doesn't mean it's a hack n slack game. I gave you 3 definitive examples of games that fall under the hack n slash genre. Bloodborne, and all of the Souls games, do not. That's like calling Zelda a hack n slash game. Darksiders, Heavenly Sword, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Dante's Inferno. All Hack-n-slash. Bloodborne is not. It's a dungeon crawler with rpg elements. Not even a little bit hack n slash.

Unless you have a better definition of Hack-And-Slash I can't agree with you. According to the definition I found Bloodborne falls under the Hack-And-Slash gameplay.

Well if where using wikipedia If you look down the hack and slash wikipedia page you will see a link to a dungeon crawl wikipedia page and it is called a genre there , also it mentions dark souls as an example of a dungeon crawler and Bloodborne fits that bill .

It could be a dungeon crawler as well. The funny thing about video games is that they can fit into multiple genres. Either way, I want to play it. I just want to know more about how the multiplayer is going to work.

At the bolded, that's not what you where saying earlier when you where you wikipidea to define the genre.

I can't help it if you skimmed my posts to jump to this conclusion.

Diablo is an "Action Role-Playing" and a "Hack-And-Slash" game. Devil May Cry is an "Action-Adventure" and a "Hack-And-Slash" game. Stop getting upset. It can be classified as more than one thing. I was not wrong. I am still not wrong. Move along.

I'm pretty sure that means I said earlier that it can be classified as more than one thing.

Yeah, it did. On topic, I want to play as the "Black Plume Hunter" with the Warped Twinblades. I love dual wielding swords.

Then you shouldn't have back tracked later on by coming up with definitions from wikipidea.

I came up with the definitions from wikipedia first. Go back and re-read the thread from the beginning. Also, you said this:

That was 46 posts after I'd already said that games can fit into multiple genres. I'm not sure why you keep trying to derail the thread by arguing with me, especially when the point you are trying to make is weak. I gave the definition of hack-and-slash first. I didn't realize I was arguing with people that didn't realize games can fit into more than one genre. I never changed my argument. I still feel that this is a hack-and-slash game. My stance never changed. I am not saying that it is only a hack-and-slash genre. I never once said that. My argument (quoted above) was firmly that it could belong in multiple genres. I did say that dungeon crawler isn't a genre. Maybe that is incorrect, and if it is I apologize. I feel that dungeon crawler is just about "are there dungeons" or not. I don't see that as a genre.

Anywho. This thread can't be used for talking about the actual game anymore it seems. If you actually want to stop arguing and discuss the game there is an updated Bloodborne thread here.

You talk about me derailing the thread , I wasn't the one who bought up the genre arguement or kept arguing with the others over whether it belong to hack n slash /dungeon crawler or crossed genres.
My point was all about definitions ,  you brought up wikipedia not me,  my reply was if you use that to define a games genre bloodborne would be classified as a dungeon crawler , so my reply was aimed at that nothing else.
what was said earlier would  have been fine with no comment from me , but that became irrelevant because you decided to bring up definitions  you can't have your cake and eat it to , if you had stuck to your original point  there wouldn't have been a wikipedia arguement to begin with .
