There is no such thing as a hardcore gamer. There are just gamers who are so insecure in themselves that they have to make other games who have fun with different games feel bad about themselves.

A hardcore gamer likes gaming so much that they'd spend time on a website like this. A mature game is a game that handles themes not fully understandable until you've reached a specific level of maturity.

A game like Dead Rising 3 is supposed to be mature and hardcore, but I find a game like Pikmin more mature in terms of plot and more hardcore in terms of gameplay mechanics. But, Dead Rising is the "mature" game and Pikmin the "childish" game. But I don't think about it when I play the games, I can play a game like Pikmin or a game like Dead Rising anytime. A hardcore gamer is someone who plays often or likes to 100% a game.  A mature game is one which incorporates themes and situations generally withheld from minors.  However saying something is mature is highly subjective especially since the subject matter is germane to a video game.
