Forums - Nintendo - Why Wii Shovelware is a Good Thing

Huge read but I read 1/3 of it.... But shovelware does get annoying...

Why is it annoying? Is somebody forcing you to buy and play these games?

It doesn't matter how many times you try to explain this to Nintendo fans, because they will never get it. Numbers show that the Wii has the most 3rd-party support out of the 3 consoles. The Wii gets the most 3rd-party exclusives and most the most 3rd-party games. Yet, Nintendo fans still aren't happy with 3rd-party support.

The Nintendo Wii has 3rd-party support that can stand up with any other console.

Nintendo fans just want every game developed for their console.

Nintendo fans keep asking for 3rd-party support they already have, they just can't see they have it.

Shovelware is annoying because I hate seeing people waste money on shit games they don't know anything about. When they see a game for 20$ they think they are getting a deal but they arn't. They are just supporting these pathetic game developers to keep making this crap.

The day conspiracy entertainment makes a decent game, I will buy it. So far all they got are N64 graphics and the ablility to move. But one day it'll happen.. I think.

Given that Okami and RE4 are ports, I'd wager that all of those games combined cost less to develop than Resident Evil 5 alone, or Metal Gear Solid 4, or Gears of War, or many other PS3/360 games.

I agree with you that the Wii has more third party quality games than most give it credit for, but one could still reasonably argue that developers aren't investing heavily in the Wii. Here's the best way to show that: until FF:CC or MH3 come out, it's likely that Red Steel will still be the highest budget game on the Wii from a third party. Red Steel. Red freakin' Steel.

Again, for emphasis, I absolutely agree with your point. People shouldn't argue so much about the Wii's third party quality. The real argument left to be made is the lack of economic investment, not quality.

Great article.

I love how people are so quick to crap on shovelware when it's not the driving force in sales behind their favorite console, aka the PS2.

All the majority of players care about is library size, not "quality over quantity" or some other such bullshit.

The PS2 won because of library size. The Wii will do the same.

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

Very interesting article. Plenty of info I didn't know about the nature of the Nintendo seal and these games' origins in Europe and Japan.

I also think Sony might have been wiser to allow some of those PS1/2 games to make their way to the PSP.
That said, It'd still be nice to see a few less of these kinds of games.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.
