Check out my post for Crazzy's thread. The PS2 sales exploded in Xmas '01 - selling nearly 7m units in 2 months.

Even the Wii isn't capable of that these days - the PS2 had Xmas '01 all to its self. Maybe the DS could match it? Wii might get close this year... maybe...

PS3 I think will do 3.5-4.5m in Nov/Dec this year, leaving it around 3m short of the total PS2 sales for the year. Its going to be a struggle keeping up with the PS2 all year anyway - weeks around now were the weakest.

Wii FIt, Mario Kart, SSBB, what else BIG(2+ mln. sellers) games left for Wii in 2008?
I just curious, what else will help to wii to hold the trend? =)

Because, PS3 is getting GTA4, MGS4, KZ2, R2, M2, LBP, and maybe GT5, RE5, FFXIII, WKS, Tekken6 and etc. +HOME and some new feautres. + Probably 299$ price, which will open road to 7 mln. PS3 during last 8 weeks. =)

What will make Wii to sell a LOT on it`s 2nd year? :)

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.


Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.

You know what? Wii Fit and Wii sports could perhaps be enough to beat Ps3 alone. All Mario Kart Wii and SSBB does, is to get a little more people to get to the Wii. Trust me, Wii Sports is more of a system seller than MKWii + SSBB combined. It is bigger than GTA 4 too.

i'd argue that wii sports is the biggest system seller ever; it's gonna sell 100mil on its own

The most important games for the Wii are probably:

1. Wii Sports
2. Wii Fit
3. Mario Kart Wii
4. Super Mario Galaxy
5. Super Smash Brothers Brawl

SSBB might beat SMG as a system seller, but I'm not sure.

oyvoyvoyv i absolutely agree those are wii's most important games.but i would say ssbb is definitely more of a system seller than smg.

Oyvoyvovyv: Wii Sports should not be counted it is free with every Wii sold. Comparing sales of PS2 2001 with Wii 2008 is a pointless thread = flame bait.

Wii sports is this generation's version of the NES version of SMB.

SMB was a bundled game that was enough for nintendo to "get its foot in the door." And was probably the only game a lot of people owned.

Likewise, i think Wii sports is doing this in the same way, getting its foot in the door so that people will buy it up. Since Nintendo already makes a profit on the system, then it wins already. Any extra games the customer buys goes straight to the bank. Of course, if its a 1st party game, then 100% of that money (minus development costs, etc. etc.) goes into the bank.

 Not all Wiis are sold with Wii Sports. Japan doesnt sell it bundled. Granted that it's bundled, if we were to remove it how would you sort the issue of games that are sold both bundled an unbundled(ie forza 3).

And the PS2 is the highest selling console in history and the Wii is thumping it. Thats what this thread is about. Its not a pointless thread unless it's saying something you don't like.
