If Gamestop sells unlimited numbers to scalpers...
a) They're not making much money on the units themselves.
b) They're going to sell each and every unit either way.
c) They'd rather sell the units to customers who are going to keep them, so they'll come in, buy the system, pick up a game (Majora's mask seems likely), buy a charger, maybe an amiibo, etc. From there, Gamestop can pitch their power up cards, trade ins, and so forth.
d) Not having items in stock decreases customer loyalty. If they never have these things in stock, people are going to stop looking to them.
So as a capitalistic entity, Gamestop has the right NOT to engage in a practice that is counterproductive to their goal of making money. THAT is how capitalism works.
