It was marketed well enough, 1.3 million is very impressive so I don't think they missed any opportunity. Although they could improve the quality of their tv ad (in general tbh) and perhaps made greater use of viral marketing.
Has any other PS3 game sold more without bundles?
Edit: Looked up the answer to my own question, and the answer is: Several.

This is probably the ONLY game I've really seen many advertisements for on the PS3. Granted I don't watch too much TV I think the low (relative) sales are more due to the lower NA install base then the quality of the game/marketing.

| Reasonable said: It got good coverage. Although it might just be my taste but I felt the ads themselves were lacking - they really didn't sell the game well IMHO. The ones I saw were miss-mashes of gameplay footage with little feel for the games overall style. I think they should have sold it as an Indy type film except you get to do the punching, leaping and shooting. I did think it has less build on the internet though - when I think how early the hype started for GOW on 360, with articles on the 'Destroyed Beauty' theme etc. I do wonder whether Uncharted could have hit a lot harder with the kind of AAA build behind it. Mind you it would probably have needed some sweet MP to get anywhere near GOW levels of sales no matter what advertising it had. Still, sales on console base for PS3 are good for a new IP and I think Uncharted will continue to show legs for a while yet. |
ha we should traded commercials then. Cause the US one was advertised like a movie, and i thought would be better advertised if they showed more game footage.

Uncharted is an incredible game, here in the UK the hype machine from Sony was used with Heavenly Sword, which ended up not being that great and they forgot to push Uncharted as hard with the press as heavenly sword...
I think it was a lost opportunity, I've played both, and Uncharted deserves the AAA title.

hmm we're both from the UK - you saw loads of ads and I saw none. I look out for game related ads but all I ever see is Nintendo stuff :/

I remember seeing a few during sports, I think it may have been cricket. I also some a few on paramount comedy 1, probably during South Park
Uncharted is going to quietly shift units like motorstorm. Expect it to hit 3-4 million lifetime.
Heeeeyyyy!!!! <Snap>
I didn't see too many ads for it, but I never watch tv. :|
Anywho, it's already sold 1.3 million. Go Naughty Dog! Woo!
I never saw any ads, but I don't watch TV. I imagine they will push it even harder with the sequel since the first one sold relatively well.
We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke
It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...." Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S.
