Forums - Gaming - GameStop's New 3DS Trade-In Promotion is a joke

So I just called GameStop to ask if it was possible to do a system transfer from your old 3DS when you trade it in for the New 3DS and the guy basically told me no. He said that the promotion is not likely to extend all the way to the release of the New 3DS on February 13, so you'd have to bring your old 3DS to the store before you actually get the New 3DS. He said there is a chance that the promotion could extend that long, but didn't know for sure. This is such a joke. It'd be like when you upgrade to a new cell phone, you weren't allowed to transfer all your contacts over to the new phone. Why would anyone do this? I purchase all my games through the eShop, so if I couldn't do a system transfer I'd lose everything. I just can't understand if GameStop didn't fully think this promotion through, or if they're intentionally trying to screw people over. Either way it's BS.

Buy a New 3DS

Transfer your stuff

Use your old 3DS trade-in credit towards games instead

How about selling your system after you buy the new 3DS? You will come out way better, I have no idea why people would trade a game/system vs selling it

I actually never even considered this haha. Checking Craigslist I see people seeing XLs for about $150. I may do this...idk. I just wish GameStop realized that a lot of people who would like to trade-in their old 3DS would also like to do a system transfer. Makes no sense...

So this is equally Nintendo's Joke for locking games to devices.

Seems harsh to blame Gamestop for not extending their promotion just because of poor system design.

Thats where knowing managers helps. I was told I could buy my New 3DS and do the transfer and then the next day bring in my old 3DS and get the proper discount back rather than its usual trade in price.

Buy a new 3ds (your data mule). Swap your data over. Trade in old 3ds toward NEWDS, swap info over. Return mule 3ds for full credit saying "this is the wrong one".

Not exactly a simple fix.

That's Nintendo fault.

You come out WAY better, I recently sold a used PS4 for 340$ on Craigslist you think Gamestop would have given me that much? lol

When walmart was giving away 50$ giftcards when you bought a PS4 I bought one. My GFs sister works at Walmart and I used her discount card.

400 - 10% = 360 + tax = 385.20 - 50$ gift card = 335.20$

I bought a brand new one for less than I paid for my brand new one XD

Or just buy a New 3DS and as you go to hand the money over punch the worker in the face and take off with the money and New 3DS... no?? ok =(
