What happened to Yoshi?

It either got pushed back to the 2nd half or they are waiting to announce a date at a later time

Again, Nintendo focusing on the 2nd half.
3 games + 1 eShop game for the first half.

I honestly don't know how this happens for the third year in a row. How can they expect the console to rebound when they just put a serious focus on it in the second half?

In terms of selling hardware, 3DS should do very well, WiiU should be down, Donkey Kong and Mario Kart are far bigger than Kirby, Party and Splatoon.

Not really, the WiiU sales should be more stable than last year, all of its biggest titles are already released (SM3D World, Smash, MK8...) or are going to be released this year (Zelda U, Xenoblade X...). Also, Splatoon looks like it's going to be a big hit, everyone likes it, it should sell well even if it doesn't move that many consoles.

Everyone loved Shenmue II and it was a flop. lol

I don't expect this game to be one of the best-selling games of the gen, but if everything goes right, it can become a clasic Nintendo IP, the same way as Pikmin and Xenoblade. I think everyone will be happy with its sales if they reach one million.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

i agree that late gen buyers won't care for the year of a specific games released.

late gen buys, imo, have two main concerns.

1. what did my friends and faimly have?   (wiiU is losing this one btw).

2. what is the entire library look like?

and number 2 is where wiiU's best game being over a year old is a hinderance.  this quarter ps4 is getting the order 1886, bloodborne, battlefield, evolve (late gen buyers don't care about 1st vs. 3rd party), planetside 2, dying light, and all those indie games like grim fandago ect.  wiiU is getting splatoon and mario party i believe.  wiiU doesn't exist in a vacuum,.. it has competition.  nintendo's first party output can't even keep up with the amount of third party games on playstation and xbox and if the size of the library on non-nintendo consoles is 4-5x larger and covering a better variety of genres than on nintendo's console even great games like MK, smash, and zelda are easy to pass on.

being old isn't a big deal.  being old and most recent is...

So let me agree to some to..

We can very much agree that they look at the entire library.. :)

And yes they are looking at what friends play to.. or at least what they have tried and like.. and also what console friends have..

BUT.. there are more levels in that..

The "average gamer" don't get +15 games in a gen and don't follow game media.. Or make videos for youtube.

The biggest part of any gen.. are always the "casuals"..  The ones who just wanna play some fun games.. play with girlfriend/kids/family.. are boys/girls under ten.. or other people.. who in most cases.. not plays games like "the order 1886, bloodborne, battlefield"

So what you say is correct.. but it is (as i see it) only true when talking the ones who "live" games.

When you talk about the more casual gamer (who I estimate to be +70% of the 270 Mill who got a console last gen) there are other things who a more/also important:

How good games - How fun -How fun with others - price - New experinces - Good for kids (parents)

at least wii u will do good in japan
due to xenoblade x, mario party, rodea, and kirby :)

Their projections for hardware shipments have not shown any expectations for a rebound, so your question makes no sense.

If i'm not mistake, even Iwata admitted their projections were playing it safe.

Still, they speak a lot about gaining momentum and how hard it is to do so. If they really mean it, they aren't doing the very best to achieve that goal.

they are playing it safe. for example, they projected 3.6m wii us sold ww by the end of the fiscal year, which for nintendo is in march. they've already sold that many and it's mid-january.

They sold that for the entire year of 2014, not from March 2014 until now.

I'm happy with the lineup. I also still think Yoshi, Devil's Third and Mario Maker could fall in the first half but they're just saving those announcements for another time. Either way though, Kirby, Mario Party and Splatoon is enough to keep me satisfied along with the 3DS titles I'll be buying.

Also, I'm still drowning in Smash and other games from the holidays, so I'm certainly not in any rush to go out and buy a ton of games right now.
