Forums - Gaming - The Order 1886's Aspect Ratio (Black Bars) Is a Complete Sham.

I hear people complain about the bars all the time. They've never been an issue to me though. I don't even recognize then when I'm watching something that has them. Heck, I'll even opt for this ratio when given a choice if it's gonna give me a wider viewing angle.

Edit: I'm actually watching a movie right now that has the bars and I didn't notice them until now.

People who aren't fans of this game's console want this game to be the Lair of this generation.

Its not like either of our opinions is going to change anything when say the Order 1887 is going to come out so I don't think there is any real point in continuing to argue this

Ditto. I love arguments though. ;)

I remember Bioshock on PC going with a similar fov except without the black bars and there quite a backlash , so they ended up making it an option.
I remember watching the part where the guy on the balcony throws grenades at you and you throw them back by telekinesis it looked okay with a nice wide fov . that opinion changed upon seeing the same part with a more normal fov and realising how the extra height created a better game play experience .

Now I know because this was true for Bioshock doesn't make it true for every game but the fact was it was introduced there for ascetic reasons without looking at what was better for a particular game play .

My last point is do we need black bars in today's climate of widescreen TV's , it smacks of style over substance .

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

Sooo ... 30FPS + black bars is the new ''cinematic'' experience that's hot on the streets these days, huh?

But you are wrong... RAD already said that their game is made natively in 2.35:1 aspect ratio, so you do have wider fov with the black bars. You seem to be using the evil within as evidence to prove your point which doesn't prove anything but the fact that the evil within was made in 16:9 and then the black bars added after...

Exactly this.

Also to whoever said they'd prefer 900p without black bars.. that's just nonsense.

The Order's 1920x800 achieves the same exact IQ as native 1080p because its pixel density is the same as native 1080p. The pixel to real estate ratio is the same. With 900p 16:9 you lose pixels, details. A blurrier image. The removal of black bars would do nothing other than stretch the image, making it look worse.

I wouldn't change a thing about how this game looks because nothing looks better than it. Absolutely nothing out there.

@JustBeingReal Uncharted 4 does not have better image quality (it's the same, read above) AA (The Order has the better AA solution) and it can" target" 60fps but truth of the matter is that it's running at 30fps. Driveclub also targeted 60fps and ended up 30fps. I have no doubt the same will happen to U4. Don't expect 60fps.

The whole bashing of choices developers make has to stop, it's their games, they make them, if you don't like the game then don't buy it.
The fact that Uncharted 4 has a full screen image, better image quality, a less linear environment, even better AA and it's targeting 60FPS shows that PS4 is capable of more than the Order is doing, so it having borders is a choice because the developers want it to look more like a movie and that it does.

I think he is more bashing their claiming that this was a design choice intended to improve the cinematic experience, rather than just a way to save power to increase the degree of detail on those pixels they do use.
