Major U.S. retailers are dropping the basic price of PlayStation TV from $100 to $80.

The unit that comes bundled with a controller for $140 has had its price lowered to $100.

Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy and more are taking action on the price of the microconsole, which launched in October last year, according to GameSpot.

PlayStation TV allows you to stream games from the PS Now service, stream PS4 games to another TV and play Vita titles on the big screen.

The price cut isn’t an official Sony move – the manufacturer still sells it for $100/$140 via its own website.

Nothing surprising. PSTV is as suspected (and expected) a major flop in any market. Wouldn't surprise me if Sony officially dropped the price soon.

They'll eventually give you money to take one. I just think it's not marketed right.

Firstly, scrap the vita OS for vita tv. Vita os is crappy as a touch UI, why the hell would you make it a tv UI?!

Dual boot android? Advertise the best of vita games, with remote play for PS4, along with all android tv-compatible apps.

And scrap the stupid name Playstation TV. It's misleading and confusing for a device with very little TV and movie apps compared to the competition.

It will keep getting pricecuts and then they'll give up on it as expected. There are already many TV services and it will be difficult for Vue to gain any customers with little advertising.

No surprise here. I'd bet more than 90 percent of the usa or more don't even know what playstation tv is or if it even exists.. No marketing whatsoever

PS Vue will be a IPTV type of service, basically allowing you to watch 100s of TV channels only with Internet, without need for cable. It is not out yet.

EDIT: And the fact that I need to explain this to you just shows Sony's failure to market it. If you, as a frequent gaming forum user, don't know about it, imagine the level at which common, casual users are acquainted with it.

Ohh that's right. I forgot about that one. They've announced a lot of playstation branded products and services in the past year so its getting a little confusing.

Yeah there hasn't been any marketing at all for the product. And I don't know how they expected it to sell at $140. I imagine it would have been DOA with no marketing. They should consider dropping it to $60 if they want it to sell.
