1 million? I give it a 5% chance of making 1 million.

Who cares? Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 are a success story only possible on Nintendos Wii U.
On every other platform the Bayo 2 would have gone unnoticed.
But on the Wii U it sells and will continue to sell over the years.
WHY?
BECAUSE OF GAMERS TRUSTING NINTENDO.
Its THAT SIMPLE. We can trust Nintendo to publish quality games.
Same for Hyrule Warriors. Who would have thought that a Dynasty Warrior Game would sell so good within the western hemisphere?
By using VGchartz data, It will take it around 3 years just like the PS3 version did or probably 4 years, i don´t know why everyone thinks Bayo 1 was such a big seller when it wasn´t.
Also If we add the first 7 week on every region for every version we have:
PS3
128,867 (USA)
123,176 (EU)
196,701 (JP)
=
448,744
360
198,423 (USA)
128,422 (EU)
87,916 (JP)
=
414,761
WiiU
231,044 (USA)
108,786 (EU)
53,970 (JP)
=
393,800
as we see, with a smaller install base than the PS3 and 360 had when Bayo 1 was relased, Bayo 2 is 50k units behind the best selling version of Bayo 1, I´m adding the sales this way because if we see here at VG chartz the first 10 week of Bayo2 are way better than the first 10 week of the PS3 and 360 verison, but that was because Bayo 1 took a longer time to be released between JP and the release date on NA and EU, 11 weeks, meanwhile Bayo 2 just took 5 week between the JP and the EU and NA releases.
Now that i have seen other Platinum games i have realized that order of the best selling platinum games so far, according to VGchartz.
Bayo 1 (ps3) -1170k
MGS Rising (PS3) - 1290K
Bayo 1 (360) -900k
MadWorld (Wii) - 750k
Vanquish (ps3) - 590k
Bayo 2 (WiiU) - 450k
Vanquish (360) - 400k
MGS Rising (360)- 390k
Wonderful 101 (WiiU) - 270k
Anarchy Reigns (PS3) - 190k
Infinite Space (NDS) - 190k
Anarchy Reigns (360) - 150k
Only Bayo 1 and MGS R have reached the 1 million sales in one single platform and also with their other versions combined, this also show that Bayo 2 with only 4 months in the market its already outselling other Platinum games with several years in the market, If MAdworld could sell 750k copies on the wii on 5 years, i´m sure Bayo will reach the million in 3 or 4 years.
It won't. It doesn't have a Nintendo character in the cover, so it won't.
I'm now filled with determination.
Not sure if it will. I think it'll end up around 800k, but maybe hit 1 mill at some point.
| S.T.A.G.E. said: In the event of THQ's demise I thought people would have second thoughts about such things in this era as games become more and more expensive to make. I know Platinum will walk away from this, but as I wrote in the first post, if Nintendo continues to do this...how much longer can they do it until a desired effect takes place or (sadly) before the bleeding impact starts to occur? I know that they have a lot of money in the bank, but it doesn't completely provide a any solace in todays world. Sega had to go out of pocket historically to fend off Nintendo when they had third party and it hurt them over time when they had no contolling marketshare. I mean...take Capcom for instance....Sony is funding the game, but the difference is...Sony knows Street FIghter will sell high numbers on their platform. It sold 4 million on the PS3 alone and around that time it was being outsold by the Xbox 360. I'm calling six million on Street Fighter alone this gen on the Playstation platform. I would be fine with eight hundred thousand for Nintendo given the costs, because the first Bayonetta sold two million between multiple platforms and Sega couldn't bear the weight of the development any longer. This brings me to the question...which I guess you've forced out of me and I thank you for that. If two million in sales isn't enough for Sega...then how is 450k good enough for Nintendo when Bayonetta 2 obviously had a much larger budget? |
Nintendo needs to keep doing until the desired effect takes place. If they need to break even or lose a bit of money on 20 games until this happens then it will be money well spent in their eyes.
Bayonetta 1s price dropped like a rock too not long after launch so while it may have made 2 million in sales the profit it generated would have been quite low due to bargain bin pricing. Nintendo won't drop the price like that so currently every sale is at maximum profit for them. Im also not even sure if bayonetta 2 had a bigger budget, the engine was already made and there were a lot of reused assets.

It won't even hit 750k, let alone 1 million.
Won bet with t3mporary_126 - I correctly predicted that the Wii U's LTD at the end of 2014 would be closer to 9 million than 10 million. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6673287
MadWorld sold 750k? Amazing if true.
Then Bayo 2 will sell more then 2 mio lifetime...
