Forums - Microsoft - Memo To Microsoft: Spin Off Xbox

XBox would not be able to exist as a standalone company. A spin-off would most certainly mean a takeover by another giant, and as much as I dislike Microsoft, I am actually glad that XBox is not their core business, meaning they will not seek huge investments into it in the future.

I am glad that MS is focusing their spending more on the other areas, giving them much less funds to moneyhat popular franchises as exclusives or timed exclusives Tomb Raider-style. I am afraid if XBox got spun off, and purchased by Amazon, Google or Facebook, they would unleash the checkbook and steal away many many titles from the loyal fanbase.

After the Tomb Raider PR debacle, I doubt MS will decide to pull a stunt like that again.

Why in the name of whatever you believe in, would anyone sell a division that is making money?

Investors must be so pissed. I know I am.

The usual geat dividends and a stock price that is up 50% in about 18  month.

Stupid article is stupid, ill informed trash

But some fanboys will probably lap it up because they know no better and have zero business acumen. Stick to gaming.

Dude you need to chill.

If the article is so inaccurate. Set it right with facts and links otherwise it just looks like your salty.

I really hope xbox stays as it currently is. Playstation needs a stupid little brother so Sony won't lose touch with the world and start acting retarded again. Without xbox and its launch drama this gen would be online only/no used games. I wish xbox will stay so we get offline-capable PS5, after which there won't be any point of making more powerful hardware anyway.

you didnt read my last post then?

Ive seen all your posts. None of them show the inaccuracies you stated.

Before people wanted xbox to seperate because it wasnt making enough money. This guy wants xbox to outperform the s&p ok. Everyones got an opinion. People want the company i work for to split each division on its own. Making each one not have the stability of 6 billion dollars of backing. Sometimes experts and analysts just have silly ideas.

I actually see where this comes from, but still disagree. The thing is that Xbox has a way smaller margin than other MS divisions.

That said, Xbox is the only cultural hit they have. There is a lot of hate for bing, internet explorer and windows 8. While Windows Phone has some satisfied clients, but it doesn't have fans.

If nothing else, the Xbox division is a sometimes profitable marketing investment.

I agree. MS needs to get rid of Xbox and I'm saying that as a fan of Xbox.

Intentionally misleading and factually incorrect information? Brilliant article!

Xbox contributes far less to MS's profits than MS's core business. That's a cold hard fact.

Whether or not MS does spinoff Xbox is a different matter entirely though.

Extremely valuable? Yes.

Profitable? No.

Need I remind you the billions upon billions lost in Xbox's first decade?
