Forums - Microsoft - Japanese Xbox One Exclusive Chaos;Child Flops in Japan; Fails to Make the Top 50

The Xbox One isn’t really doing well in Japan, but one could say that until now there was no prominent Xbox One exclusive from the archipelago of the rising sun to push sales besides D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die and Crimson Dragon. Last week .5pb and .Mages released Chaos;Child.

Watching the Media Create Software charts you wouldn’t notice that the game has been released, and for good reason. Yesterday the data tracking firm released the top 20, andChaos;Child was nowhere to be seen. Today they followed up with the top 50, and the game still isn’t there.

To see how the game did, we have to go check other charts. Tsutaya puts Chaos;Childin first and second place for Xbox One software (standard and limited edition), andDengeki estimates a meager 1,415 units sold in its debut week, which also happens to be the heavy shopping week just before Christmas.

This is the first time that the series fails to make the top 50 (or even the top 20) on Microsoft’s consoles.  Chaos:Head Noah on Xbox 360 grabbed a dignified 12th place in 2009, while Chaos;Head – Love Chu Chu! ranked 13th the year after.

The series is quite popular in Japan, enough to generate manga and anime series, but this time around the poor sales of the Xbox One caused a rather striking flop.

.5pb and Producer Makoto Asada have been staunch supporters of the Xbox One in Japan since the beginning, announcing three exclusives for Microsoft consoles. PSYCHO-PASS: Psychopaths and Mistereet F are scheduled for release next year.

It’ll be interesting to see if the developer will revise its exclusivity plans in light of Chaos;Child‘s sales, or will place its hopes on the popularity of the PSYCHO-PASS anime to try and push more units on Microsoft’s console.

Makes sense since Japan + Xbox = Does not work

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

So PS consoles at a later date is almost a given now, the real question is will 5pb continue to support MS like they have been or finally develop for Sony consoles from the start.

Why'd they make it exclusive? I loved Chaos; Head. :'(

Bet with Xander XT:

I can beat more games on his 3DS than he can on my PSVita in a month. Loser has to buy the winner a game on his/her handheld Guess who won? http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=193531

Me!

maybe its coming later for ps4. Very bad numbers for Chaos Child. No wonder that more Japanese developers will not produced for xbox one. And batman coming only for ps4 in japan next year. maybe more games too... ? this sales are incredible bad.

dragon quest heroes, persona 5, god eater 2, one piece pw 3, J-Stars VVs+,Senran Kagura Versus, yakuza zero, Jojo Bizarre Adventure EoH, disgaea 5, bloodborne, SW4-II... (really!) many games coming only ps platforms next year. Japanese traders are perhaps in February already no Xbox Bundles want more, i think.
The lineup looks too bad for XboxOne in the 1st quarter.

VNG's are pretty niche even in Japan, but 1.4k is an absolutely abysmal launch for the latest entry in the SA series :/ Not surprising, given the X1's near non-existent install base in Japan, but it's still a shame. I suppose the one silver lining is that this should speed up the inevitable PC release, which ten folds the chance of us one day getting a localization (or at the very least a fan group starting work on a translation patch).

Do sales really matter to the developers if the paycheck from MS is big enough to feed them and continue their work?

One would first have to be recieving a paycheck from MS

If they didn't, they are idots and deserve this.

Unless of course they never intended to make money and just wanted to make games for the love of it. Then more power to them.
