Forums - Gaming - Can Anyone Make GOTY Editions Still?

Every year multiple titles have a GOTY edition.

Now that we have an official video game awards, should publishers be allowed to do this because 1 random website or magazine gave it their GOTY?

I think this should be the case, DA:I isn't MY game of the year but I will concede to the point that it is game of the year whether I like it or not. Therefore DA:I should be the only game allowed to publish a 'GOTY edition' It's like the Oscars, you may think actor/actress A deserved it over actor/actress B but it's something you have to deal with.

Thoughts?

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

The game awards aren't really the official awards. They are just another set of them.

And yes, there will still be plenty of games that have GOTY editions.

Hmm it being funded by Publishers and console makers, with them all gathered there makes it pretty official. What's missing for it to be regarded in that way?

Its pretty stupid to do it this way. If your game got the most GOTY awards it would be acceptable tho.

What I do want tho is a GOTY edition style of thing happening anyway no matter what its called Complete Edition etc.

I dont want to buy 50% games anymore. So for me actually a GOTY edition does not mean shit other than "probably the full game this time"

I mean GOTY is nonsense anyway when a cinematic 18FPS game can get it rofl...

I suppose, I'm just proposing that one game a year based on this award game publish a GOTY edition.

Everyone else can but just call it 'complete edition' or something like that.

I'd like there to be more collections in general. I don't like downloading over priced DLC so any game with a 'collection' release gets a plus from me. Shame ME3 and DA2 never had such options, EA milking all it's worth. Especially as I played DA:O and ME2 with such collections. (I exchange my copy of the game in and buy the collection with all the DLC for a lot less than what it would cost me on PS/XB stores).

Hmm, pie.

There is no such thing as an "official" game of the year. It's just a proclamation that happens to have a bit more money behind it, that's all. Still just a consensus opinion from a relatively small group of people.

Only games that score at least 97% on metacritic deserve a GOTY edition. :p

Anyone should be able to make a GOTY edition.

'Video game awards'..psh. GOTY editions are whatever, just another chance to buy a game that came out a year before.
