I don't think anyone on here would disagree with that the PS3 has been an epic failure so far. The fumbled launch, the ridiculous price, the SKU confusion, lack of rumble, horrible Sony management, getting killed by the Wii, etc.

Just like most people would agree the XBOX360 is doing 'crap'.

The difference is the PS3 seems to be getting better and better while the X360 is going backwards. Now do you get it?

Words of wisdom to all delusional fanboys.

You realise he called the PS3 an epic failure right?

How is the 360 getting worse. It has had one $50 price cut in two and a hlaf years and is still selling better year over year than last year. It has another price cut inbound in the next two months along with exclusive GTA DLC.

What isyour point fanboy?  That is the difference between me and you,  You praise the 360 like it is some great console and deny that it is a shitty console.  I on the other hand realise that dispite me liking the PS3 and will buy my own when FF and other games i am awaiting come out i could admit that as it stands it is a failure.  What you seem to fail to realise is that the PS3 is over priced and has many less good games than 360 and yet it is still outselling it.  And the Wii well the Wii sold more in a year than 360 did in two.  Keep living in fantasy land.

so YOU are basing "mistakes" on falls from generation to generation..

then ISN'T the Dreamcast the BIGGEST mistake, I mean it led from 10 million units to NOTHING! didn't it..forget falling it led to SEGA LEAVING the market

you cannot base a failure on this, then wouldn't SNES be a "failure" as well & hope to GOd you don't dare call it a failure..

You're just incapable of realizing the PS3 has shot the Playstation brand to hell. You're so disllusional you won't even acknowledge the rest of my points, you only feel comfort in attacking this one.

Was Sega a multi-faceted conglomorate like Sony is capable of dealing with such Hardship? No. Did the Dreamcast set Sega back over a decade in profits? No. The Dreamcast just couldn't compete. The Sega brand had never been the dominant force in the market at all much ales by the margin the PS1 and PS2 were. Sega's stake in gaming was a declining one and in the end it was a consistant trend of poor decisions and circumstance that doomed it.

Did the SNES cause Nintendo to lose to the Genesis or the TBX-16? No. Was it the beginning of a downward spiral for Nintendo? Yes. Did the SNES set Nintendo ten years back in profits? No.

Is it really that hard for you to admit the PS3 was a mistake? Does it really matter that much to you whether the PS3 is compared to the Virtual Boy or the Dreamcast?

2: Stop trying to force photo-realism down my throat until you can get out of the uncanny valley. Work on style and presentation instead of just pixels and bloom.
3: Try something weird and new, and hope we like it.

You'll cut costs way more than you cut revenue, and thus increase profit.

And PS3 had to cut it's price $200 in a year to stay competitive. I'm not saying that the 360 WILL come back (though I will say I'm 90% sure the 2 will switch places a few more times), or that 360 will beat the PS3. But it's almost impossible to predict this kind of stuff. Hell, I wouldn't have predicted that a $400 PS3 would be on the market right now. I thought it would be damn near impossible due to cost. But here we are. If Sony could do a desperate move to get back sales, so can MS. It's far from a done deal. And obviously both are getting absolutely eclipsed by the Wii.

Nope. This is why Sony wins. They are a very good consumer electronics company competing in a consumer electronics market against a software company.

MS has no chance of beating Sony when it comes to reducing manufacturing costs of hardware. They are the new kids on the block when it comes to these kids of things, and Sony wrote the book on it.

It's what they do.

Be that as it may, MS isn't Sega. And MS isn't Sony. They have WAAAAAAAAAY more money. If you can't reduce costs (and there is no evidence that they can't), they can always take a small hit on their cash reserves to accomplish a price cut.

Also, while you are correct that Sony is better at lowering costs, keep in mind that the 40GB intro was not accomplished by lowered production costs but rather a $3 billion IPO.

Right now they have 44 Billion $ earmarked to Buy Yahoo.

If that indeed happens they will way too busy trying to integrate Yahoo and Microsoft to be able to afford more losses on the gaming side of the business...

As for the IPO comment it's just BS, sorry but I don't think you know much about how a company balance sheets and financial reports works, especially with Sarbanes-Oxley ( which Sony has to adhere too, being listed on the New York stock exchange).

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Show us some proof that is the literal case for MS's financial situation. How much money and maneuvering room do you know for a fact MS has? You don't, you're just speculating. MS is sitting quite cozily where it stands and whether the Yahoo deal happens or not, its just wishful thinking on your part it will in any way handicap MS's ability to outmaneuver Sony.

@4D GamerIII

yes it IS hard to admit Ps3 was a mistake because the gen isn't over, by the END IF Blu-Ray takes off like DVD....notice I say IF before you start calling me dilusional...then PS3 would have been worth every penny due to royalties SONY would get

FOR THE PS BRAND....you can see PS3 is picking up, there is NO CHANCE of it beating PS3 but 80 million is very possible, beatin NES is still possible..

sigh... believe what you want, I think I've proved my point quite thoroughly.

Yeah, if you say so. Whatever. You'll forgive me if I've grown tired of arguing with a brick wall.

Sony isn't the number 1 enemy for MS, the number 1 enemy is Google and it's kicking their ass more every month so that is the fight toward which they are diverting their biggest assets ( by trying to buy Yahoo which is a big mistake if you listen to every financial analyst but well...).

Google has totally destroyed their search business, is building the lion 's share of the online advertising business ( which grows faster than the gaming market by the way) and is stealing their talent. Pick 100 software guys in the US and ask them if they would rather work for MS or Google. 99% will tell you Google....

As for financials, they are not in bad shape but their offer for Yahoo represents roughly 2.5 years of earnings and they will have a tough time demonstrating to their investors in the next year thats they have created value by acquiring Yahoo( if it happens indeed) ( and I ain't the only one to think that way, their stock tanked by 20% since they announced they were making an offer for Yahoo).

Bottom line is MS is a publicly traded company with shareholders. They can't go on forever throwing away money as shareholders tend to hate that ( especially as soon one of their biggest shareholder that didn't give a shit about his money ( Bill himself) will be selling a huge amount of his shares through the charity foundation he manages with his wife...)
