Forums - Gaming - "Death of Console"? I Think Not, Xbox Exec Says After Xbox One Beats PS4

Right now nothing can compete with the console as a format. It's not like the handheld situation where phones and tablets compete there is nothing new for people to use as opposed to a console (PC has always been there and will never be a direct competitor)

Death of console? lol we must not be talking about PS4 or X1 even.

''10 million xboxs vs 13.5 million ps4''

...

these xbox apologists are trying really really hard, i thought the spinning in the 7th gen was enormous, but they are really getting wild now

A lot of people said consoles are dead because wii u was doing bad

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

I remember this, and they'd ignore anyone saying the WiiU was doing bad because of the WiiU and Nintendo, it had to be the death of consoles. The PS4 and X1 would be DOA.

Anyone reasonable can assess that there was no "death" coming to the Xbox One even before the Christmas shopping season. All he's doing is unnecessarily fueling the console wars by pandering the extremists. This surely doesn't help portray console gaming in a positive light. Just the exact opposite.

This is not talking about the death of Xbox One. You are the one fueling the console wars right now. Phil was praising the sales of all consoles.

No I'm not. I'm not the one condoning the false belief of the death of the Xbox One in any way.

You're the one who brought it up. Where does he single out Xbox One when talking about the sales for the industry?

In America. Does Microsoft really think they can outsell PS4 in US only? Plus, he's just fueling the console wars.

The headline is divisive. This has nothing to do with xbox v ps4. He is simply saying consoles are doing better the people expected. Your interpretation and subsequent words are massively ironic.

OT

I still think this gen will be massively front loaded and will sell less than last gen overall.

I'll limit myself to answer you about home consoles, as portables this gen range from 3DS little better than meh, for a leader, and abysmal PSV, so about that I can only agree. I just hope about home consoles you're wrong, but alas I suspect you'll be right, although it could be not Sony's or MS' fault, but just due to Ninty clumsiness with Wii U (last gen Wii went very well until Ninty shot it in the foot too early, while Sony and MS both managed to fix thei initial errors making the gen great overall). Anyhow, a front-loaded gen reaching, say, 200M overall, could have, thanks to the early boost, very good SW sales, not too far from the previous gen, that had just one early boost, Wii, while XB360 and PS3 really took off later, after having solved their respective initial problems. An early large share of lifetime users means a large share of them buying games for a longer period before the successive gen takes off.
But nothing is lost yet: last gen we had two disasters, RRoD for XB360 and horribly high costs and price for PS3, ruining their first years, with just one console having a great start, this time we have one great start, PS4, a good one followed by a drop, but finally taking off again and already leaving its troubles behind (so having wasted just part of potential sales in dead periods, not too terrible, really), XBOne and just one competitor in a meh situation, Wii U, if last gen eventually became so good, it could happen this time too, as this time there's only one bad situation left to better, and Ninty knows very well that with the portables decline it must boost again its home consoles asap, possibly not waiting for next gen, but overturning the situation already with Wii U.
