"Death of Console"? I Think Not, Xbox Exec Says After Xbox One Beats PS4

Following the announcement last night that Microsoft's Xbox One had outsold Sony's rival PlayStation 4 in the US and UK during November, Xbox executive Phil Spencer spoke out to thank fans for their support and to say console gaming is alive and well.
Phil Spencer        Thanks for the congrats. 18 months ago ??s were "death of console?", seems like consoles are fine, great games and sales for our industry.

Xbox One sales in November also no doubt benefited from Black Friday, when various retailers sold the console for $330 compared to $400 for the PS4.

Microsoft has shipped around 10 million Xbox Ones, while Sony has moved about 13.5 million PS4s, meaning there are at least 23.5 million current-generation systems out there today. This number is likely to grow even further after the holiday as shoppers scoop up systems in droves.

I think a lot of the death of consoles stuff came from their decisions before they made the 180s.

Death of Consoles?!? I've been hearing this for years. The truth is PC is the one getting hit the hardest. Only games like warcraft and starcraft give PC any credit. LOL....Now comes all the fanboys gonna chew me up on this one.

A lot of the 'death of consoles' stuff came in the years before the PS4/Xbox One were even announced...

Then they escalated when X1 made people think the next gen of consoles were gonna be always online and block used games.

Edit: Also this is specifically talking about 18 months ago, not before the PS4/X1 were announced.

My opinion is that a gaming console should be a part of every civilized home's entertainment center. Doesn't matter if it's XOne, PS4, WiiU, Ouya, PSTV or Amazon Fire or whatever comes in the following years.

10 million xboxs vs 13.5 million ps4. what a poorly researched and put together article.
it is likely (or at least possible) that xbox still hasnt shipped 10 million.
and wasnt the 13.5m ps4's, sold number from september... 3 months ago.

They are both the latest official shipped numbers. And in the case of the Xbox One they do so 'around' not exactly or above. Would you rather they not use official numbers?

Or they could state when these figures were released, the article implies they are current numbers.

Exactly what I thinking, very innefective article at getting its point across. They don't even mention the Wii U for gods sake.

The article is more misleading than informative.

They have links to the original articles for those figures. If anybody actually cares they could look at those, if not, well that is their own fault and not Gamespots.

No its not, when writing an article you can never say its okay if I left out information because its in articles that I referenced.  That's just lazy.  Also your ignoring the fact that the article implies the figures are current, its not if people care, people are gonna assume the numbers are current from how the article is written.

MS has shipped 10 Million consoles but hasnt moved 10 million. They probably wont move ten million until mid second quarter. By then Sony will be close or even past 15 million consoles sold.
