Why is that Westerners are so enamoured with Japanese Culture?

If its a japanese manga, anime, or videogame, most likely American audiences will fall in love with it. Its like the Japanese are revered and their poo don't stink.

Am I right or is it just me?

yep. I concur. Also, a lot of people put Asian language characters, chi, various methods of meditation, Ninja Warrior, etc.

Essentially you have a large influence of Asian, primarily Japanese, culture on America as a whole. I would bet it has something to do with our strong military presence in the nation and our overall closeness.

Ummm I'm big on Japanese culture because it seems to stem more from creativity than popularity. (from what I gather), also it's something different, America as a country is just a mish-mash of other cultures, so were all bound to be attracted to different things lol.

I also have deep routes attaching me to Chivalry, Honor, Martial Arts, etc etc. So I actually draw a lot of personal character out of many different cultures, but when it comes to artwork, I just think Anime is tops :P They're not always trying to be unique, just good :)

I'm Japanese-American, raised in a semi-Japanese fashion, and I just don't understand Japanophiles. With very few exceptions I don't like anime; I prefer many American 'toons over those from Japan. I prefer American/western oriented games over Japanese games. I'm not very fascinated with Japanese culture.

If folks want to worship all things Japanese simply because those things are Japanese, then that's their perogative--no skin off my teeth. Just don't expect me to understand it.

the grass is always greener on the other side (which btw can be proven with geometry).

but really, i love a lot of Japanese media which isn't to say i love it because it's Japanese. i love any art that is good regardless of it's history and the Japanese have plenty of good games/shows to be excited about.

Nicely put Kitler, I also think a major reason I'm so attracted to outside culture is because EVERYTHING in America has to boil down to being politically correct and picture perfect, it's just so fake lol. In Japanese entertainment it seems very very different, animation =/= for children, entertainment = entertainment xD. Hard-gay for the win :P

hey, i thought all the guys interested in japanese culture just cant score with the girls in their country and hence try to score with asian chics.

maybe that was a wrong impression?

Very true, kitler53.  My sister's a die-hard Francophile; I don't understand that, either.

Perhaps you like Japanese media on its own merits, but I think there are many others who like Japanese stuff because it's the cool thing to do.  I remember seeing a picture of some Ayumi Hamasaki album, but the album cover was shopped to read "The Same Top 40 Pop Shit You Hear on the Radio but in Japanese So You Can Feel Superior."

I don't deny that there are people like you who genuinely like Japanese media.  If you truly do, then more power to you.  Hey, I freely admit to loving Enka.  But J-pop?  Thank you, no.  I'll be over there listening to Led Zeppelin (whom I like for their music, not because they're British).

Play some No More Heroes... if you don't get geeked out on the Japanese Otaku reference's then you don't deserve to play games ;)

I kid of course, but it's well worth playing for the awesome nerd factor.
