I enjoyed the conference, I really did. I though it was a fun, entertaining conference. I thought it was better than Sony's E3 conference. Here's the thing though:
I saw Sony apparently backing Street Fighter V. Grim Fandango and Day of the Tentacle remakes. Great news for fighting and classic adventure fans! Both genres are kinda niche (adventures are REALLY niche), so more power to you.
But other niche genre... Rpgs. I was NOT expecting big rpg announcements or a genre revival AT ALL. But then Square comes on stage... talks about SEVENTEEN YEARS AGO... Final Fantasy VII is COMING BACK and, and... it's a port of the Steam release.
The problem here is not that we don't have the remake, it's the bait and switch that bothers me. A remake now wouldn't make sense obviously, but how do you make such a huge announcement for the same game? Huh? Other than that, we had Persona 5 (just a localization confirmation), and Suikoden I and II on PSONe Classics...
...which is pretty much the universe giving me the finger and saying that no, there won't be a triumphant return for the genre and they will stay DEAD. I'm not saying I'm done with Square and rpgs or anything (look at my sig). But all the liiiitle hope I had? Crushed.
